Visiting the Dubai Aquarium & Underwater Zoo
Located inside the massive Dubai Mall, the Dubai Aquarium & Underwater Zoo offers an immersive look into marine life. It is both a spectacle and a convenient stop, making it a solid choice for families or anyone looking to escape the heat.
An impressive tank at the heart of Dubai Mall
The centerpiece here is a massive 10 million liter (about 2.6 million gallon) tank, which you can see from several levels of the mall. You can get a free preview from the main concourse, which offers a clear view of stingrays, sharks, and schools of fish swimming by. For a closer look, you can walk through the 48-meter glass tunnel that runs directly under the tank, providing a 270-degree view of the marine life.
The Underwater Zoo: a surprising variety of species
Beyond the main aquarium, the Underwater Zoo features an interactive path through several different habitats. Divided into three zones (Rainforest, Rocky Shore, and Living Ocean), it houses a variety of aquatic and land animals, including the famous King Croc, glowing jellyfish, and piranhas. This section serves as an educational component that appeals to both children and adults interested in marine biology.
Extra activities for the curious
If you are looking for more than just a walk-through, the Dubai Aquarium offers paid activities such as cage snorkeling with sharks, glass-bottom boat tours, or behind-the-scenes guided sessions. These options give you a look at the facility operations and a chance to observe specific species up close.
In short, the Dubai Aquarium & Underwater Zoo is a pleasant visit, especially if you need a cool place to take a break during a long day at the Dubai Mall. While the facility is fairly standard compared to other major global aquariums, its central location and modern setup make it a worthwhile option for travelers passing through Dubai.

From the public, free part of the mall, you already get a nice view of the aquarium. It is pretty tempting to see more, and we gave in to that temptation.
No regrets, there are really a lot of fish to see, the big tank is truly impressive, and you can walk through a tunnel that goes right through it.
Bonus, there are not just fish to watch, but other aquatic species like turtles and crocodiles.
Another bonus, you can pet baby sharks! Apparently, they do not bite yet at that age ;)
