Paris La Défense Arena

Where to stay near Paris La Défense Arena: the 3 areas to know in 2026

One of our three members produced the figure that governs this page: at the end of a concert, “it took us about thirty minutes to walk to the metro (which normally takes a 5 minute walk)”, because “when 40,000 spectators leave at the same time” the pavements jam. In the largest indoor venue in Europe, the distance to your bed is therefore counted in minutes of crowd.

Another member describes the opposite for rugby: “the stadium only stays about half full, which helps avoid the crowds”, and the atmosphere there is “very family friendly”. The hall, renamed Plenitude Arena on 1 July 2026, thus changes face according to the billing. Three areas: the Jardins de l'Arche at the foot of the wall, Nanterre 1.7 kilometres off, and Paris, which line 1 brings back here.

The two ways to stay near Paris La Défense Arena

Everything depends on the billing: a concert fills the 45,000 seats and blocks the pavements, a rugby match leaves half the seats empty.

The Jardins de l'Arche and the La Défense esplanade At the foot of the hall, 564 metres from the Grande Arche

For anyone escaping the thirty minutes of crowd

This is the new quarter set behind the Grande Arche, 564 metres from the hall: towers, pedestrian decks, a shopping centre and three hotels whose year is made by busy nights. One of them announces 550 feet to the entrance, under 200 metres, and that is the decisive argument when the end of a concert turns five minutes of walking into thirty. Nanterre-Préfecture station is 196 metres away, the Grande Arche 564.

it took us about thirty minutes to walk to the metro (which normally takes a 5 minute walk)

Nanterre, from the town hall to the campus 1.7 kilometres away, outside the business district

For anyone preferring a town to a cluster of towers

Behind La Défense begins a town of 97,780 inhabitants, with its market, its low streets and its university: 1.7 kilometres from the stands, this is the other side of the scenery, and the prices follow. The two houses chosen are within reach of the suburban train, and the better rated shows an 8.4 built on eight hundred and sixty judgements. On a concert night, you will walk against the flow rather than with it.

Paris, at the end of line 1 5.4 kilometres away, on the Étoile side

For anyone visiting Paris and adding an evening

Line 1 and the RER A link La Défense to central Paris with no change: you can therefore sleep in the city and come here in the evening. The Arc de Triomphe stands 5.4 kilometres from the stands, and our two houses are on that side, one of them three minutes' walk from the Charles de Gaulle - Étoile metro. The trade-off is the return: the crowded metro after a concert, the very one our member describes.

Our tips for booking the right place

  • Thirty minutes to reach the metro: the fact that decides your room: Our member timed what no map shows: “leaving the concert, it took us about thirty minutes to walk to the metro (which normally takes a 5 minute walk)”, because “when 40,000 spectators leave at the same time” everything jams. The hall now holds 45,000 seats in concert configuration, after an extension in 2024. Conclusion: if the billing is a big concert, the three addresses of the Jardins de l'Arche are worth their price; otherwise, the sum changes.
  • For rugby it is the opposite, and another member says so: “The stadium only stays about half full, which helps avoid the crowds”, she writes, with a “very family friendly” atmosphere: the rugby configuration holds 30,681 seats, and the Racing does not fill half of them. She adds two useful things: the seats are “very affordable”, around $40* a match in category 6, and “many matches are followed by a short concert included in the price”, lasting 45 minutes, where she saw Claudio Capéo, Jennifer and M. Pokora.
  • Two seating details no box office will write down: The first concerns the Gold pit: “there is not really any signage”, you are handed a wristband at the ticket check, “then that is it”, and you have to know “that you can go right to the front by taking the corridors on the sides”. The second is acoustic: “in the Gold Pit area, you can hear an echo, which muddies the sound a bit”. The hall is shaped like a U, with “a vertical wall in place of a stand”, which explains the phenomenon.
Where not to stay near Paris La Défense Arena
  • Booking a train right after a big concert: our member took about thirty minutes to reach the metro.
  • Looking for neighbourhood life at the Jardins de l'Arche: these are towers, a shopping centre and pedestrian decks.
  • Mixing up the two evenings: a concert fills 45,000 seats, a rugby match leaves half of them empty.

FAQ: where to stay near Paris La Défense Arena

Sleep at the foot of the hall or in Paris?
At the foot of the hall if the billing is a big concert: the closest of the three hotels announces under 200 metres, the only way to escape the thirty minutes of crowd our member describes. In Paris if the capital is the real reason for the trip: line 1 and the RER A reach La Défense with no connection, and our two Parisian houses are at the Étoile, 5.4 kilometres off. Between the two, Nanterre offers real-town prices, 1.7 kilometres away.
How many seats does the hall hold?
45,000 in concert configuration since 2024, against 40,000 at the opening, and 30,681 seats for rugby: it is the largest indoor venue in Europe. It was opened on 16 October 2017 by a Rolling Stones concert, and our member describes its U shape, “a vertical wall in place of a stand”.
Why has the name changed?
Because the naming rights were bought: the hall has been called Plenitude Arena since 1 July 2026. Before that came Arena92 during construction, U Arena from 2017 to 2018, then Paris La Défense Arena from 2018 to 2026. The last two names still circulate on tickets and in search engines.
How do you reach the hall?
Through La Défense, where metro line 1, the RER A, the T2 tram and the Transilien L and U trains arrive: a fully pedestrian walkway leads from there to the entrance. The other access is Nanterre-Préfecture station, on the RER A, 196 metres from the hall, whose signposted path takes about ten minutes. The Grande Arche is 564 metres away.
What about the sound?
Our member found the production “really very strong”, with pyrotechnics and cables that had the artist flying above the stage. He notes one precise reservation: “in the Gold Pit area, you can hear an echo, which muddies the sound a bit”. The stage, on the other hand, is “large and lets a lot of people in the pit be relatively close”.
What is there to do in the quarter?
The Grande Arche is 564 metres away and the CNIT 746: La Défense is visited above all for its architecture and its shopping centres. Behind it, Nanterre and its 97,780 inhabitants offer a market and ordinary streets, 1.7 kilometres off. For the rest, the Arc de Triomphe is 5.4 kilometres away, and the capital's guide takes over.
