Where to stay near Calanques National Park: the 2 areas to know in 2026
The massif has two gateways, and there are 27 minutes of road between them: Luminy on the Marseille side, for Sugiton, Morgiou and Sormiou; Port-Miou at Cassis, for Port-Pin. No road crosses the park, so the side you sleep on decides which calanques you will see.
Second thing, and our reviews say it before we do: access is decided the day before. ValNomad warns that « It is better to get well informed before heading out, however, because access is often restricted in the summer », and FloraC that « These beautiful sites are subject to restrictions that are important to follow in order to protect them ». The massif access map is published around 6pm for the following day, and when it turns red, being there is forbidden.

The two ways to stay near Calanques National Park
The two sides do not look out onto the same calanques, and no road links them through the massif: you have to go around it. What is being decided here is therefore not a distance to the park, it is a gateway.
| What changes | In Cassis | In the south of Marseille |
|---|---|---|
| The gateway to the massif | Port-Miou, 2.76 kilometres | Luminy, 7.22 kilometres |
| To the heart of the park | 21.44 kilometres, 31 minutes | 4.83 kilometres, twelve minutes |

How long to the entrance, area by area?
The kilometres and minutes below are CAR routes, calculated on the road network. The park's reference point is in the heart of the massif, 1.03 kilometres from Morgiou: that is why it is twelve minutes away on one side and half an hour on the other.
| From | Time | How |
|---|---|---|
| Cassis, at the Port-Miou gateway | 2.76 km | by car to Port-Miou, seven minutes The heart of the massif is 21.44 kilometres away by road, 31 minutes. |
| The south of Marseille, around Luminy | 7.22 km | by car to Luminy, fourteen minutes The heart of the massif is 4.83 kilometres away by road, twelve minutes. |

Cassis, at the Port-Miou gateway Port-Miou 1.47 kilometres from the nearest address
Anyone aiming for Port-Pin and the eastern calanques
Cassis opens the massif from the east, and it is the shorter side on foot: our two addresses are 1.47 and 1.77 kilometres from Port-Miou, less than three kilometres by road, with Port-Pin following at 2.63 kilometres. Ariane writes: « I love the Port-Pin area with its sandy beach ». What this side costs is measurable: 21.44 kilometres and 31 minutes of road to the heart of the massif, 17 kilometres of road to reach Luminy, and no shortcut, since the park has no road.
I love the Port-Pin area with its sandy beach.

Anyone aiming for Sugiton, Morgiou and Sormiou
Luminy is the gateway to the massif on the Marseille side: from there start the paths to Sugiton, whose needle rock is 1.75 kilometres from the heart of the park, and to Morgiou, 1.03 kilometres out. Our address in the 9th arrondissement is 4.83 kilometres from the park by road, twelve minutes, and 7.22 kilometres from Luminy. It is the only one we serve here, and that is a fact about this side of the massif: past the Prado, the hotels stop. Marseille has its own guide with us, five districts from the Vieux-Port to the Vélodrome, and the card below leads there.
The best part is still taking a dip in the clear water of the Calanques de Morgiou or En-Vau!

Our tips for booking the right place
- The two gateways are half an hour of road apart: This is the figure that governs this page. From our address in Cassis, the heart of the massif is 21.44 kilometres and 31 minutes of road away; from the one in the 9th arrondissement of Marseille, 4.83 kilometres and twelve minutes. The other way round, Marseille is 19.75 kilometres and 27 minutes from Port-Miou, and 17 kilometres from Luminy. None of these distances is a straight line: the park has no road, and you go around it to the north. Choosing your hotel here therefore means choosing a gateway, and giving up the other one for the day.
- In summer the Sugiton calanque has to be booked, and only on one side: In 2026, booking is compulsory and free every day from 27 June to 30 August, plus 20 and 21 June, 5 and 6 September and 12 and 13 September. It opens 3 days before the visit and closes at 6pm the day before, for 5 people at most, and one person cannot book more than 8 times in the season. A QR code is asked for on arrival. If the massif closes because of fire risk, bookings are cancelled and not carried over. This only concerns Sugiton, so the Luminy gateway: from Cassis, Port-Miou and Port-Pin are reached without booking.
- The access map comes out the day before around 6pm, and it decides the day: Access to each massif in the Bouches-du-Rhône is decided every day according to the weather and the drought, then published around 6pm for the following day. Since 2026 the map has four colours: green and yellow mean you go in, so does orange, and red means being there is forbidden. Our members know it: ValNomad writes « It is better to get well informed before heading out, however, because access is often restricted in the summer », and FloraC, who lives in Marseille, that « These beautiful sites are subject to restrictions that are important to follow in order to protect them ». The practical consequence for choosing a room: an address from which you can fall back on something else beats an address that has only the massif to offer.
- What our reviews say about the car: Ariane, who comes back every time she passes through Marseille, writes: « I avoid taking the car, as it is not the easiest way to get there and you have to pay for parking ». And she adds: « But with a boat license, or by kayak, it is paradise! ». The figures on this page point the same way: the address closest to a gateway is 1.47 kilometres from it, which is a walk, while moving from one gateway to the other takes 27 minutes of road. In other words, the car is not what gets you close to the park, it is what gets you across to the other side, and the right side, chosen the day before, removes that journey.
- What our six members come here for: They all give 5 out of 5, and they do not describe the same thing. leslie remembers that « There are many hiking trails in the park, offering stunning views of the cliffs and the Mediterranean ». JeromeA remembers the colour: « Here, the limestone is as white as the sky is blue! ». ValNomad the smell: « I love this place with the scents of the pine forest and the scrubland... ». Birdy the contrast, « Just a short distance from the city of Marseille and its concrete ». Ariane answers in advance the worry you might have when reading visitor numbers: « Despite the tourism, the landscapes remain fairly wild and preserved, so I really feel like I am out in nature ».
- Booking in Cassis while counting on walking to Sugiton: there are 17 kilometres of road to reach Luminy.
- Setting out without looking at the previous day's access map: when it is red, being in the massif is forbidden.
- Turning up at Sugiton in summer without a booking: in 2026 it is compulsory every day from 27 June to 30 August.
- Looking for a hotel between the Prado and the massif: we serve only one at that distance, and that is not an oversight.
