Visiting Boulders Beach, a unique encounter with penguins

A sanctuary for African penguins

Boulders Beach, located in Simon's Town near Cape Town, is known for its colony of African penguins. These endangered birds have settled on this sheltered beach, offering visitors a rare opportunity to watch them up close in their natural habitat. Wooden boardwalks allow you to walk above the dunes while keeping a respectful distance from the animals.

A protected natural setting

The beach gets its name from the large granite boulders that dot the shoreline and create quiet coves. The calm, clear water makes it a popular spot for families and swimmers. Although access to some areas is reserved for the penguins, several sections are open for swimming, allowing you to enjoy this unique environment.

Activities nearby

Beyond penguin watching, Boulders Beach is ideally located for exploring the region. The proximity of Simon's Town, a historic town, allows you to discover artisan shops and local museums. A few miles away, the Cape Point Nature Reserve offers dramatic scenery and various hiking trails.

A delightful sight

Located a few kilometers from Cape Town, Boulders Beach is a must see.
In addition to the superb setting, the show is provided by dozens of African penguins!
I loved how close we could get to the animals. We really appreciated the fact that they are roaming completely free.
A memory that will leave a mark on the kids, families take note!

Best memory in South Africa

This is surely the place that leaves the best memories for families visiting South Africa. A colony of penguins has made its home on Boulders Beach. There are really hundreds of them, of all colors and with all kinds of plumage. Unfortunately, you cannot get close to them, even though we know it is for their safety.
It seems that the African penguin settled in South Africa because it was looking for food. It does not go further north than Namibia. The species is reportedly threatened, however, according to our guide.
