Visiting Huacachina Oasis, a green haven in the middle of the desert
Located just a few miles from the city of Ica, the Huacachina Oasis is a rare body of water surrounded by towering dunes. This natural site draws travelers looking to venture into the Peruvian desert while enjoying a peaceful setting. Between athletic pursuits and relaxation, Huacachina is a popular stop on the route through southern Peru, often recommended by the best local agencies.
A walk around the lagoon
The oasis centers on a small lagoon with waters historically prized for their therapeutic properties. A path allows you to appreciate the contrast between this lush pocket and the massive sand dunes encircling it. In the evening, the site provides a show as the sun drops behind the sand hills.
Adrenaline in the dunes
Huacachina is best known for its desert activities. Thrill-seekers can try sandboarding, a sport that involves riding down dunes on a board much like snowboarding. For a bigger adrenaline rush, buggy excursions are available, allowing you to traverse the sandy terrain at high speeds.
A lively night scene
Despite its small size, the oasis features an active nightlife with several bars and restaurants that welcome visitors after a day of exploring. Some establishments offer panoramic views of the desert, which is ideal for a final drink under a starry sky. The atmosphere is typically social, with a high concentration of international travelers.
