What to know about Costa Rei Beach

With its almost surreal color palette, Sardinia often acts as an artist creating small masterpieces. Costa Rei Beach is no exception. It is so visually striking that it feels like something out of a dream. Located on the southeastern side of the island, between the towns of Muravera and Villasimius, it spans a natural area of nearly 10 kilometers. Bordered by the Tyrrhenian Sea, this stretch features a sequence of beaches, coves, and lagoons set against the backdrop of the Sarrabus mountain range.

Ten kilometers of surprising coastline

There is a distinct Caribbean vibe at Costa Rei Beach. With fine white sand and crystal-clear turquoise water, it provides a total change of scenery. Yet, tucked behind the small dunes are other wonders unique to Sardinia. Ponds surrounded by reeds and rock formations create enchanting corners for swimming in calm water. The magic of this coastline lies in the balance between endless shorelines and natural, secluded spots. Piscina Rei is among the most famous, highly regarded by families because its shallow water is ideal for younger children. A short walk reveals other gems. Cala Pira features sand with subtle pink hues, nestled among granite boulders and overlooked by the Aragonese Tower. Further along, Cala Sinzas hides behind a promontory and a grove of eucalyptus trees, with water known for being some of the clearest in Italy. At Capo Ferrato, jagged rocks blend with golden sand, and at Feraxi, the vegetation hides a tranquil pond. The cove of Portu S'Illixi is a favorite for scuba divers, while at Cala Sa Fiu, the sea opens up in a natural amphitheater. Every kilometer brings a new detail, making Costa Rei Beach a remarkable destination.

Best beach in southeastern Sardinia

I haven't traveled all over Sardinia, which is huge, but on the southeast coast, the beaches at Costa Rei are my favorites. It is a succession of sandy beaches interspersed with rocks. The further north you go, the fewer people there are.

Spacious and welcoming

Long sandy beach, several kilometers long. You will have enough space so you are not on top of each other. You can park for free nearby.
Clear and shallow water, great for swimming with kids. Watch out for some spots where there are rocks and sea urchins, but hey, the water is crystal clear so you can spot them very easily.
