Marcel Michelin Stadium at a glance
Owned by the ASM Clermont Auvergne rugby union club, the famous Marcel Michelin Stadium located in Clermont-Ferrand is known for an intimidating atmosphere that challenges visiting teams and a heated pitch, the first in the Top 14 league. As the heart of the Auvergne capital, you will be surprised by the quality of its facilities, its informative museum, and the local hospitality.
Established in 1911 by the founder of the Michelin tire company, the Yellow and Blue Cauldron holds a capacity of approximately 20,000 spectators across four stands: Limagrain, the oldest and formerly known as Volvic, Auvergne Rhône Alpes, Philiponeau, named for the Clermont player tragically struck by lightning on the pitch in 1976, and the espace Édouard. On match days, the stadium regularly exceeds 90 percent capacity. The energy is constant, but if you prefer a quieter experience, avoid the three levels of Philiponeau where the most dedicated supporter groups gather.
Spanning 4.2 hectares, the stadium features an ingenious heating system buried 25 centimeters underground, a sophisticated training and development center, and a panoramic restaurant. The site also includes underground parking, retail galleries, and event spaces that host about 150 corporate conventions and gatherings each year.
For the past two years, the stadium has offered the ASM Experience. Through an impressive 600 square meter interactive museum, you can explore the club, its operations, and its history. If you want to get active, you can simulate a match or step into the shoes of a fan. The experience is engaging for all ages. If you have the time, plan for about 2 hours and 30 minutes to take a guided tour behind the scenes. You will hear plenty of stories that reveal the secrets of this rugby landmark.
A real cauldron where the locals in Clermont meet up for a rugby match.
