Where to stay near Bryce Canyon National Park: the 4 areas to know in 2026
Our two members end on the same piece of advice, and it settles the night. « Do not miss the sunrise or sunset at the panoramic viewpoints », writes the first, who was there « even in the snow with crampons ». The second walked « the Rim Trail, which offers numerous viewpoints looking down, then at the bottom of the canyon on the Queen's Garden Trail ». The park itself is open 24 hours a day all year round: nothing bars the road before dawn, and the only question left is how many minutes you have to drive.
You still have to know where to look, and the names mislead: nearly every viewpoint faces east, so the sun sets behind you. The park points to Inspiration Point or Paria View for the evening, an hour and a half beforehand, and to Sunrise Point or Bryce Point for the morning. Four areas share the nights: the park plateau, Bryce Canyon City 6.2 kilometres away, Tropic 20.4 and Panguitch 41.3.

Our tips for booking the right place
- The viewpoint names mislead, and the park says so itself: Nearly every viewpoint at Bryce faces east: in the morning the light comes straight into the amphitheatre, and in the evening the sun sets behind you. Sunrise Point and Sunset Point were named to draw lodge guests out at both times of day, not to mark the right spot: the park notes that the view from Sunrise Point is just as fine at daybreak as at day's end, and that it covers 360 degrees. For the morning it recommends Sunrise Point or Bryce Point; for the evening, Inspiration Point or Paria View, arriving an hour and a half before. Our second member, for her part, places « The most beautiful perspectives are located between Inspiration Point and Sunrise Point ».
- The direction of the loop, which our member recommends and the park explains: « I walked the Rim Trail, which offers numerous viewpoints looking down, then at the bottom of the canyon on the Queen's Garden Trail. I recommend following it from Sunrise Point to Sunset Point », writes our member. The park recommends exactly that direction, and gives two reasons for it: going down from Sunrise Point, the views over the amphitheatre are in front of you rather than over your shoulder, and most injuries happen coming down the steeper Navajo side, which you therefore climb instead. The loop runs 2.9 miles, that is 4.6 kilometres, for 191 metres of elevation, 2 to 3 hours and a stated difficulty of moderate. Our member warns: « you need good shoes and decent cardio, because the switchback climb back up is very dry and tough ».
- In the snow, traction devices are sold at the visitor centre and never lent: Our first member was there « even in the snow with crampons », and this is a stay at 2,438 metres. After a storm the park road closes temporarily at mile 3; the road to Fairyland Point and the one to Paria View, both short, stay closed all season; Wall Street closes for rockfall, and the Rim Trail between Inspiration and Bryce Points for its snow cornices. The park lends no snowshoes: they are sold at the visitor centre bookshop, where the traction devices are too, and after a heavy snowfall most day trails call for them. The reward lies elsewhere, and our second member says it of a rain shower: « It rained during my visit, but the colors were even more beautiful ».
- What entry costs, and the $100* nobody announces: $35* per private vehicle of 15 passengers at most, valid seven days, $30* per motorcycle for two motorcycles and four passengers at most, $20* per person on foot or by bike from 16 years old, free below. Since the start of 2026 a surcharge of $100* per person aged 16 and over applies to anyone who is neither a citizen nor a resident of the United States, in eleven parks including this one. Only the non-resident annual pass, at $250*, waives it: the Bryce Canyon one, at $70*, is not open to non-residents. For two people the surcharge counts double and adds to the vehicle; for three it moves ahead of the non-resident annual pass, which is good for a year and every park. One last detail that holds up a queue: the park does not take cash.
- Waiting for the evening at Sunset Point: the park points to Inspiration Point or Paria View, an hour and a half before.
- Going down the Navajo to climb back by Queen's Garden: the park recommends the opposite, and that descent is where most injuries happen.
- Counting on the free shuttle out of season: it only runs from 3 April to 18 October.
- Arriving without a bank card: the park does not take cash.
