Port de plaisance Porto Vecchio

Porto-Vecchio Marina, a gem of Southern Corsica

The turquoise waters of the bay at Porto-Vecchio serve as the backdrop for one of the most sought-after marinas in the Mediterranean. Between the gently swaying masts and the ocher facades of the old town perched on its promontory, this spot blends maritime tradition with contemporary elegance.

Why the marina is worth your time

Far more than just a place to dock, the Porto-Vecchio Marina is the beating heart of the salt city. This natural harbor has shaped the identity of the town for generations. Today, it offers more than 450 slips and serves as a prime stop for sailors cruising the Mediterranean. The atmosphere here captures a mix of Corsican authenticity and a cosmopolitan summer vibe.

Strolling the docks and soaking in the maritime scene

The marina quays are designed for wandering at any hour. In the morning, watch the bustle as local fishermen unload their catch while sailors prep their vessels. The pontoons stretch out toward the citadel, offering a stunning perspective of the fortified old town.

The modern marina features high-quality facilities including a welcoming harbor master office, full technical services, and nautical shops. The wooden walkways invite you to admire sailboats and yachts of every size, from modest dinghies to massive cruisers.

Enjoying the nightlife and terraces

At day's end, the marina transforms into a lively social hub. The terraces of the restaurants and bars fill up, creating a festive atmosphere typical of the Mediterranean. Light from the waterfront reflects off the calm water of the bay.

The highlights include:

  • Marina terraces offering a clear view of the boat traffic
  • Several establishments serving authentic Corsican cuisine featuring the fresh catch of the day
  • Music that intensifies during the high season, with occasional live performances
  • Waterfront cocktail bars that draw a cosmopolitan crowd

Setting out to discover the surrounding coves

The marina is the ideal jumping-off point for exploring the surrounding natural wonders. Numerous operators offer boat trips to the legendary beaches of the region.

Boat excursions

Regular shuttles connect to the beaches of Palombaggia, Santa Giulia, and the Cerbicale Islands. These trips provide a unique look at the protected coastline. Some operators also offer snorkeling outings or sunset cruises.

Rentals and water activities

For those who prefer to captain their own journey, several rental companies offer boats that do not require a license, jet skis, or paddleboards. It is the perfect opportunity to create your own itinerary and find secret coves accessible only by sea.

Local tip: Come stroll along the docks in the late afternoon, around 6:00 PM. This is when the boats return from their excursions and the golden hour light makes the citadel look incredible. Afterward, find a seat at the terrace of the Belvédère on the north side of the marina for an aperitif with the best view of the bay.
