The Alcazar of Seville

Where to stay near Alcázar of Seville: the 2 areas to know in 2026

From 1 October to 31 March, the Alcázar closes at 5pm. In summer, at 7. And all ten of our members talk about how long it takes: MorganeL counts « a good two hours without any problem », MathildeFlor « several hours », and two others recommend the guided tour on top of that. A winter day started at midday therefore does not fit, and JeromeA warns: « if you can, book in advance ».

Second thing, and it is what our reviews mention most often: five out of ten talk about Game of Thrones. Ariane « felt like I was in Dorne, the oasis land », Dudy specifies that « part of season 5 » was filmed here. The cathedral is 173 metres away, and the whole of Santa Cruz fits inside that radius.

How long to the entrance, area by area?

These distances are STRAIGHT LINES, calculated from the position of each address and that of the palace: the public OSRM server has no walking profile, and in the lanes of Santa Cruz a driving route would go round the whole district, which is largely pedestrian. No walking time is served.

From Time How
Santa Cruz, between the Alcázar and the cathedral 158 to 472 m on foot, through the lanes
The cathedral is 173 metres from the palace, on the same forecourt.
The rest of Seville, from Triana to the María Luisa park beyond 924 m on foot or by taxi
The Triana bridge is 924 metres from the palace, the Plaza de España 962.

Santa Cruz, between the Alcázar and the cathedral From 158 to 472 metres, two roofs facing the Giralda

Anyone who wants the first 9.30am entry

The lanes between the palace and the cathedral, which is itself only 173 metres away: our three addresses are 158, 262 and 472 metres out, which is to say within reach of the first 9.30am entry, the one that comes before the groups. All three have a location scored 9.7, the same figure, and two have a roof terrace turned towards the cathedral. In exchange, the district is pedestrian and narrow: cars do not come in, and suitcases roll badly on the cobbles.

An oasis of calm and beauty in the center of Seville.

The rest of Seville, from Triana to the María Luisa park Beyond 924 metres for the Triana bridge

Anyone who comes for Seville first

The Triana bridge is 924 metres from the palace, the Plaza de España 962: in other words both banks and the big parks are walkable, and it is Seville you have come to see. It has its own guide with us, five districts detailed street by street, including Santa Cruz: the card below leads there, and we copy none of its addresses across. What this area costs is one more walk in the morning, when the 9.30am entry is the only quiet one.

I think this is one of the most beautiful places in Seville. A must-see!

Seville Stay in the city Where to stay in Seville Seville has its own guide: neighbourhoods, prices, our recommended hotels.

Pros

  • Five districts detailed in our Seville guide
  • The Plaza de España 962 metres from the palace
  • Room rates that fall with the distance

Cons

  • One more walk for the first entry
  • No address served here, by choice

Our tips for booking the right place

  • In winter the palace closes at 5pm, and that changes the day: From 1 October to 31 March, the Alcázar is open from 9.30am to 5pm; from 1 April to 30 September, from 9.30am to 7pm. The ticket office opens at 9am. Our reviews give the length of visit that has to fit inside that window: « you can easily spend a good two hours there without any problem », writes MorganeL; « the palace is huge, and you can easily spend several hours there », writes MathildeFlor. Two of our members add a guided tour on top, which stretches it further. In other words, in winter an afternoon arrival leaves a window shorter than the visit itself, and JeromeA advises to « book in advance » if you can. The palace is also closed on 1 and 6 January, Good Friday and 25 December.
  • Five of our ten reviews talk about Game of Thrones: It is the most cited fact of the set, and it comes from our members, not from us. Dudy: « part of season 5 of the show Game of Thrones was filmed here as the Water Gardens of Dorne ». Lili Be: « it is the city of Dorne, for those in the know ». Ariane: « I felt like I was in Dorne, the oasis land from Game of Thrones, which was filmed here ». MathildeFlor: « if you are a fan of GOT like me, the scenery should look familiar ». MorganeL: « you will recognize some filming locations. It is fun to remember the scenes ». The places in question are the gardens and the pools, which are also the part where visitors linger longest.
  • Two of our members recommend a guide, for the same reason: Bill, who gives 4 out of 5: « I still recommend a visit with a guide to understand a place with such varied styles ». Ariane, who gives 5: « I highly recommend the guided tour. It provides so much information about the daily life of the sovereigns, as well as the function and decor of the Alcazar ». The reason is the same for both: the palace was reworked era after era, and JeromeA says it differently when he writes that he « was surprised by the typical Mudejar architecture ». A guided tour has a start time, and a start time means being there on time: that is this district's second argument, after the 5pm closing.
  • The gardens divide our reviews, and that is worth knowing: Bill is blunt: « I have to admit that the gardens disappointed me a bit ». JeromeA says the opposite, in the same terms as three other members: « the highlight of the show, the gardens where fountains, orange trees, and huge palm trees all come together ». MathildeFlor: « I especially loved visiting the gardens, with their fountains ». Shanour K: « the gardens are just as impressive, with their fountains and palm trees ». We serve both without settling it. What is certain is that the part under debate is also the one that takes the most time, and that it is better visited in the cool of the morning than late on a summer afternoon.
  • Who does not pay, and what the rest costs: General admission is $18*, the reduced rate $9* for over-65s, students aged 14 to 30 and European Youth Card holders. The Cuarto Real Alto, the floor the royal family still occupies during its stays, costs $6.20* more. Admission is free for residents and natives of Seville, under-13s with an adult, people certified at 33 % disability and one companion, and unemployed residents of the province on production of their card. There are also theatrical night visits, at $17*, which are a different product and a different hour.
Where not to stay near Alcázar of Seville
  • Arriving late in the afternoon in winter: the palace closes at 5pm from 1 October to 31 March.
  • Planning the visit on 1 or 6 January, Good Friday or 25 December: the palace is closed.
  • Counting on a rushed visit: our members talk about a good two hours, guide not included.
  • Driving to your hotel inside Santa Cruz: the district is pedestrian and cobbled.

FAQ: where to stay near Alcázar of Seville

Is it worth sleeping near the Alcázar?
Yes if you are aiming for the 9.30am opening, and that is the real criterion in winter, since the palace closes at 5pm. The three Santa Cruz addresses are 158, 262 and 472 metres away, so on foot, and the cathedral is 173 metres from the palace. From the rest of Seville it is more than 924 metres, which is still walkable but gets decided every morning.
What are the opening hours?
From 1 October to 31 March, 9.30am to 5pm. From 1 April to 30 September, 9.30am to 7pm. The ticket office opens at 9am. The palace is closed on 1 and 6 January, Good Friday and 25 December.
How much does entry cost?
$18* for general admission and $9* at the reduced rate, for over-65s, students aged 14 to 30 and European Youth Card holders. The Cuarto Real Alto costs $6.20* more. It is free for residents and natives of Seville, under-13s with an adult, people certified at 33 % disability and one companion, and unemployed residents of the province. Theatrical night visits are $17*.
Santa Cruz or the rest of Seville?
Santa Cruz for the hour: 158 to 472 metres from the palace, three locations scored 9.7, and the cathedral on the same forecourt. The rest of Seville for the stay: five districts detailed in our city guide, streets a car can use, and prices that drop as soon as you leave the historic centre. What Santa Cruz costs is cobbles under your suitcase and the district's own rates.
Are there really Game of Thrones locations?
Five of our ten members mention them, so yes, and it is the gardens and the pools that stand in for Dorne. Dudy specifies that « part of season 5 » was filmed here, Lili Be that « it is the city of Dorne, for those in the know », Ariane that she « felt like I was in Dorne, the oasis land ». It is also the part of the site where visitors stay longest, which affects the time you should arrive.
Why no address elsewhere in Seville?
Because Seville has its own guide with us, with five districts detailed street by street, from Santa Cruz to Triana by way of El Arenal and the María Luisa park. Copying its addresses across to this page would make for an arbitrary extract, and this area's card leads straight there. This page keeps what it alone can say: how many metres separate your room from the gate, and whether you will be there at 9.30am.
