Visiting Anfield
Anfield is the primary stadium in Liverpool, serving as the home turf for Liverpool FC, whose players are famously known as the Reds. Originally, Anfield hosted Everton, the city's other historic club. However, following a rent increase in 1892, Everton moved out to build Goodison Park. The owner of Anfield then established his own team to fill the vacancy, which became Liverpool FC. The stadium currently holds approximately 54,000 spectators.
An Iconic Landmark in Liverpool
Anfield is a world-renowned soccer stadium with origins dating back to 1884. While demolition projects have been discussed over the years, they never materialized. Instead, the stadium has evolved through multiple phases of expansion and renovation. The most significant recent work began in 2014, when a third tier was added to the main stand, supported by a massive metal structure.
The stadium's terraces were developed starting in 1906. The most famous is the Spion Kop, built in 1908. Reserved for the most dedicated Liverpool FC supporters, it is named in memory of the Battle of Spion Kop, which took place in South Africa and resulted in the loss of many British soldiers.
The Home of Liverpool FC
To dive into the history of Liverpool FC, do not miss the interactive museum, which houses the six trophies the club has won in the Champions League. A stadium tour also provides access to the top of the stands, offering a clear vantage point over the pitch and the city of Liverpool.
Anfield also serves as an important memorial site. A marble plaque at the entrance honors the 97 supporters who lost their lives during the Hillsborough disaster in Sheffield, which occurred after a major crowd crush. The club anthem, You'll never walk alone, sung by supporters at every match, serves as a tribute to those who were lost.

Even though I am not a huge soccer fan, I had a great time at the Liverpool stadium. The building itself is not exceptional, but the atmosphere there is really incredible. I had never seen anything like it anywhere else. If you get the chance, I recommend you go to a match, you will not regret it.
