About this property

Accommodation category

Résidence hôtelière

Opened in 2014, Le Camp du Drap d'Or takes its name from the historic 1520 meeting between Francis I, King of France, and Henry VIII, King of England. This royal summit, held on the border between the two nations, required a massive encampment to house both courts during their negotiations.

The Renaissance decor has been carefully reconstructed to immerse you in the atmosphere of the 16th century. The logeries (lodgings) echo the style of military tents from a battlefield camp, but designed for the high nobility of the era. Walls are adorned with embroidered tapestries and decorated with carved wooden columns, while the large beds feature heavy canopies. It is a military camp reconstruction, but with the comfort of a grand castle.

The entire property includes about 100 rooms with a capacity of up to 5 people, spread across roughly 50 logeries. Rooms are furnished with a large canopy bed (160x200 cm), 2 bunk beds, an extra bed, and a baby crib available upon request. You will also have access to free Wi-Fi and a television with international channels. Breakfast and dinner are available at the Les Deux Couronnes restaurant, located at the entrance to the property.

Cheaper but totally fine

We chose this hotel because it is the cheapest one at Puy du Fou. We were expecting something cheap, bordering on camping, but actually, no. The comfort is perfectly fine. We slept very well in clean rooms.
The breakfast is pretty basic, though.

Overpriced for what it is

This type of accommodation must be great for families with kids, it feels like a vacation. If you come with your adult expectations, I find it a bit pricey for what it is.

Original and spacious

The yurts are perfectly suited for hosting families of 5. There is enough space for each child to have their own ground level bed.
The furniture is supposed to immerse you in the era of Francis I. It is not totally successful, but it does not feel cheap either. The bathrooms and toilets could use better ventilation.
The breakfast buffet is pretty standard, with a decent variety of sweet and savory options.
