Where to stay in Chambord: the best neighbourhoods (2026)
Chambord is not a city, and that settles the question before you even ask it with 102 residents at the last census, a single square, three restaurants, and just one hotel. The national registry of classified accommodations knows of no other in the municipality, the business registry lists none either, and you will find no guesthouses, vacation rentals, or campsites on site.
Staying right next to the château therefore means booking this single 4-star address. Everything else starts 5 kilometres away, in the Loire villages to the north and Sologne to the south, and then in Blois, 14 kilometres away. This guide covers them in that order, from the closest to the most well-stocked. Just two price reference points, since almost nobody publishes rates here: 19 EUR for a campsite pitch, and 118 EUR for the first hotel room with a published rate anywhere.

Chambord, Place Saint-Louis Commune of Chambord
to wake up right in front of the chateau, with no other choice around
The village fits entirely within the estate. A single square, Place Saint-Louis, sits right at the foot of the facades, featuring three restaurants and the only classified hotel in the area, housed in a building listed as a Historic Monument. The Château de Chambord opens at 9:00 AM year-round and closes only on January 1st and December 25th. Staying here means one specific thing: having the landmark right outside your window before the gates open and after the tour buses leave. The three other areas do not offer this.
For me, it is the most architecturally impressive Loire Valley chateau. The scale is truly colossal. I love studying the roofline, the capitals, and the countless chimneys.

Relais de Chambord Luxury
A 4-star hotel with 55 rooms on Place Saint-Louis, located 300 meters from the facades. The property occupies a listed building, features a spa, and offers a room set up on a toue, a traditional Loire riverboat. No rates are displayed on their website, so reservations go through an availability engine.
Pros
- The chateau right outside your window, before and after opening hours
- Three restaurants on the same square, without needing to drive
Cons
- One hotel for the entire village, with no backup options on-site
- No budget lodging, and no rates published in advance
To the north, the Loire: Saint-Dyé, Muides, Crouy-sur-Cosson Communes of Muides-sur-Loire, Saint-Dyé-sur-Loire, and Crouy-sur-Cosson
to arrive by bike, or to camp within 8 kilometers
The river runs 5 kilometers north of the chateau, and this northern side is where you will find the campsites and Loire-side hotels. The Loire à Vélo trail crosses the estate's park for about 6 kilometers, followed by more than 25 kilometers of bike paths inside the walls, and the bike parking at the main entrance is free. The villages are tiny: Saint-Dyé-sur-Loire has 1,153 residents and Muides-sur-Loire 1,264, with only a handful of addresses each.
I discovered the Château de Chambord during a bike trip along the Loire à Vélo route. I did not tour the inside of the chateau, but I really enjoyed biking around the park.
Where to stay in this area
Le Manoir Bel Air Mid-range
A 3-star hotel with 39 rooms right on the Loire in Saint-Dyé, 5 kilometers north of the chateau. The property publishes its full rate sheet online, which no other hotel in the area does.
Le Brame de Sologne Mid-range
A 3-star hotel with 20 rooms in Muides-sur-Loire, 6 kilometers away. It has the classic feel of a village inn, with the bridge over the Loire just steps away.
Camping Château des Marais Budget
A 5-star campground set in a 14-hectare park in Muides-sur-Loire, 5.6 kilometers from the chateau. The management publishes their rates openly, making this the pricing benchmark for the guide.
Camping municipal du Cosson Budget
A 2-star municipal campground spanning 4 hectares in Crouy-sur-Cosson, 8 kilometers away along the river that crosses the estate. The town hall lists an operating window from April to October 15 with free hot showers.
Pros
- The Loire à Vélo enters the estate, completely car-free
- The only hotel in the area that lists its rates before booking
Cons
- Campings close for part of the year, unlike hotels
- Villages with just a few hundred residents mean very few dinner options at night
To the south, the Sologne region: Bracieux, Tour-en-Sologne, Mont-près-Chambord The towns of Tour-en-Sologne, Bracieux, and Mont-près-Chambord
to find a 2-star room, which the town lacks
On the other side of the wall, the Sologne forest begins and the villages cluster between 5 and 9 kilometres from the castle. This side offers the true variety of options in the area: an isolated 4-star hotel in its own park, two village 3-stars, two 2-star properties, and a campground. Bracieux, 8 kilometres away, is the most populated of these villages with 1,343 residents. None of these spots are walkable from the gates.

A 21-room 2-star hotel on route de Blois in Bracieux. The sign itself advertises being near Chambord, which is accurate at 7.2 kilometres.
Hôtel du Château Budget
A 15-room 2-star hotel in Tour-en-Sologne, 8.6 kilometres away. Together with the previous address, these form the only two 2-star properties located under 10 kilometres from the castle.
Camping Huttopia Les Châteaux Budget
A 3-star campground in Bracieux, located 7,6 kilometres from the castle on the edge of the Sologne forest. The setup features wooded grounds with furnished tents.
Pros
- Every category, from 2-star to 4-star, within 4 kilometres
- Bracieux has shops, which the neighboring hamlets lack
Cons
- A car is necessary to reach the castle
- No train station, and no regular bus service to the estate
Blois, the city and its train station, 14 kilometres away Municipality of Blois
to arrive by train or to have more options on a busy evening
Blois has 24 classified accommodations on its own, compared to just 1 in Chambord. You will find a train station there, rooms across every price range, and restaurants open for dinner. The estate itself offers none of those three. Its station is actually named Blois-Chambord even though it sits 14,9 kilometres from the castle, which pretty much sums up the relationship between the two spots. From Blois, you reach the estate by car.
Where to stay in this area
Fleur de Loire Luxury
A 5-star hotel with 44 rooms set in a former riverside hospice, featuring a spa and a gourmet restaurant. No other hotel of this caliber exists within a 15-kilometre radius of the castle.
Mercure Blois Centre Mid-range

Hôtel Côté Loire Budget
An 8-room, 2-star spot right on the river, making it one of the two smallest rated properties in Blois. The front desk isn't open daily, with staff on site from Tuesday to Saturday.
Pros
- The station, meaning Paris and Tours without a car
- Restaurants open in the evening, which are hard to find around the estate
Cons
- 14 kilometres to drive every morning just to start the tour
- A city of 47,219 residents, completely different from the quiet atmosphere of the estate
Our tips for booking the right place
- The estate entry ticket has two different price points starting in January 2026: On January 14, 2026, the Domaine national de Chambord introduced a two-tier pricing system for the castle and formal gardens ticket on a trial basis. The standard rate is 31 EUR, while a discounted rate of 21 EUR applies to visitors who are citizens or residents of a European Economic Area country upon presentation of a valid ID. Visitors under 26 enter for free. Bring your documentation because it reduces the price by a third. Add 8 EUR for a car since the estate charges for parking on a daily basis, though bicycle parking is free.
- Three concert evenings close the roads on the estate: The estate hosts the Chambord Live concerts on June 26, 27, and 28, 2026. On these three days, the castle stays open until 18:00, but the roads on the estate close starting at 13:00. If you are staying at Place Saint-Louis or in the villages within the park, double-check your dates before booking because the restriction affects access rather than visiting hours. The equestrian show runs from April 4 to September 27 and again from October 17 to November 1, while Christmas at Chambord takes over the estate from November 28, 2026, to January 3, 2027.
- The estate parking lot is not an RV campground: The estate states it clearly on its access page that the parking lot is not an overnight accommodation area and has no hookups for water, electricity, or waste dumping. An RV can park there during the day for 15 EUR per 24-hour block, which does not permit staying overnight. Local campgrounds are the solution with 4 rated sites located under 8 kilometres away, including two in Muides-sur-Loire, one in Bracieux, and one in Crouy-sur-Cosson.
- Nobody publishes their rates except for two addresses: Around Chambord, nearly all hotels direct you to a booking engine without ever publishing a rate sheet, including the only hotel in the municipality. Two exceptions provide the pricing benchmarks for this guide: Manoir Bel Air in Saint-Dyé-sur-Loire lists 118 EUR for a charming room, 138 EUR for a double room with a view of the Loire, and 188 EUR for a 4-person apartment, while Camping Château des Marais in Muides-sur-Loire starts at 19 EUR for a pitch and 45 EUR for a rental. Add the local tourist tax, which is charged per person per night at 0.83 EUR in Saint-Dyé-sur-Loire and 0.66 EUR in Blois.
- Looking for a cheap room in the municipality of Chambord. It has only one 4-star hotel and no guesthouses or campgrounds. The lowest rates are found at least 5 kilometres away at the Loire campsites, and the closest 2-star hotel is 7.2 kilometres away in Bracieux.
- Planning to spend the night in an estate parking lot. The rules forbid it and there are no RV facilities whatsoever. Four rated campgrounds sit less than 8 kilometres away.
- Booking a stay in Mont-près-Chambord under the impression that you are sleeping in Chambord. The village carries the castle name, shares its postal code, and its town hall sits 8.5 kilometres from the gates. Bracieux and Tour-en-Sologne share the same postal code 41250 without being any closer to the municipality.
- Arriving by train at the Blois-Chambord station thinking you will step off right at the foot of the castle. It is located in Blois, 14.9 kilometres from the estate. Mer, at 10 kilometres, is the closest rail stop, and it does not serve the monument any better.
