Three of our six reviews for Chantilly use the exact same word without coordinating: a single day. Ariane calls it a day trip outside of Paris, MathildeFlor concludes it is perfect for spending the day, and Bill titles his review a nice day one hour from Paris. That same Bill, who stayed overnight, warns that on Sunday evening once the château closes, the town goes to sleep fast. The regional train takes 25 minutes from Paris-Gare du Nord, so many visitors head back the same evening.
The hotel inventory tells that exact story. The official list of classified accommodations counts 11 hotels with Chantilly in their trade name, and only 2 of them sit within town limits. The rest are in Gouvieux, Vineuil-Saint-Firmin, out toward Creil, and into the Val-d'Oise department. The 4 sectors below are therefore organized by town rather than by neighborhood. Right in Chantilly proper, the cheapest room starts at 109 EUR, while crossing the municipal line drops it to 61 EUR.

Everything that draws visitors here fits into a 2-kilometer rectangle. The Château de Chantilly and its Condé Museum anchor the east end of rue du Connétable, the Grandes Écuries and their Living Museum of the Horse face them, the racecourse occupies the lawn just to the south, and the Chantilly-Gouvieux station sits 2 kilometers away, still within town limits despite its compound name. Three hotels share this space, and they are the only three listed in the town's official accommodation registry: a 5-star right at the estate gates, a 4-star near the station, and a 3-star on the central square.
Chantilly revolves entirely around its castle and horses. The downtown area has plenty of charm, but you will walk through it quickly. On Sunday evenings after the castle closes, the town goes quiet fast. We hunted for a restaurant along the main avenue, rue du Connétable, and found very little open.

The only 5-star hotel in town, featuring 92 rooms located 400 meters from the castle gates. Community member Ariane had lunch there and enjoyed the menu, while noting that the bill matches the venue's upscale status.
Best Western Plus Hôtel du Parc Mid-range
A 4-star property with 57 rooms on avenue du Maréchal-Joffre, 430 meters from the station. No other address in town is quicker to reach on foot after stepping off the train. The interior design leans into the town's equestrian heritage.
Hôtel Le Chantilly Mid-range
A 3-star hotel with 27 rooms housed in a former 1722 coaching inn on the quiet square of place Omer Vallon. The hotel offers rooms ranging from 15 to 32 square meters, along with connecting rooms for families.

Gouvieux, from Les Huit Curés to the banks of the Oise Municipality of Gouvieux
to pay less, or to sleep in a park
The neighboring town to the west hosts the majority of hotel rooms sold under the Chantilly name. Two very different sides exist here side by side. At Les Huit Curés, near the Creil road, a commercial hotel cluster lines up chain brands 2 kilometres from the chateau. This is where you will find the lowest rates in the area. Further west toward the Oise river valley, two 4-star country-house hotels open up their grounds, and a 2-star campground sits right on the riverbank. The one thing they share: the Chantilly-Gouvieux train station sits 1.8 kilometres from the closest properties and 4.8 kilometres from the furthest.

A 38-room 2-star hotel in Les Huit Curés. Its sign says Chantilly, its tax parcel says Gouvieux, and its rate sheet starts lower than anywhere else around the estate, just 2 kilometres away. The front desk closes at 10 pm, which matters if you arrive on the late train.
Campanile Chantilly Budget
A 51-room 3-star hotel right next door in the same commercial cluster. Same administrative location, same distance to the chateau, but a notch up in comfort.
Château de Montvillargenne Luxury
A 120-room 4-star hotel set in a wooded park on avenue François-Mathet, now operating as Jeanne & The Forest. Its 120 rooms make it the larger of the two estate hotels in Gouvieux, located 4 kilometres from the Chantilly chateau.
Le Château de la Tour Luxury
A 47-room 4-star hotel classified in February 2026, set in a park bordering the forest. The property hosts a large volume of corporate seminars and weddings, so check that a private buyout does not overlap with your travel dates.
Pavillon Saint-Hubert Budget
A 2-star, 18-room hotel right on the Oise River in the Toutevoie area. The property notes that all rooms are located on the second floor and there is no elevator.
Camping Le Pré des Moines Budget
A 2-star campground with 132 sites in Pont de Saint-Leu, officially rated in November 2025. The tourism office lists it as open from January 1 to December 31, a real rarity for an outdoor campground. Gouvieux has a second one on avenue de Toutevoie, meaning the town packs in the only two rated campgrounds in the area, located 4,7 kilometres from the château.

Just northeast of the château lies a neighboring town where two 4-star hotels alone offer 415 rooms, which is more than double what Chantilly has to offer in total. People stay here for specific reasons: ample capacity, parking, family rooms, and the golf de Chantilly, which carries the town's name despite being located here. The château is 1,4 and 2,2 kilometres from these two properties, but you will need a car since this is geared toward organized group stays rather than walking around.

A 4-star hotel with 200 rooms sitting 370 metres from the Chantilly golf course. The setup is built like a seminar resort with all the amenities to match.

A 4-star hotel with 215 rooms on route de Senlis. No other hotel in the area matches that size, and this single property outdoes the total room count of all three Chantilly addresses combined.

Just south of the estate stretches the Chantilly forest, flanked by two quiet villages offering modest 3-star hotels. One sits near the Lys golf course, while the other settles into the hamlet of Montgrésin, 116 metres from the Orry-la-Ville-Coye station served by both regional trains and the RER commuter rail. Two types of travelers end up here: hikers hitting the trails, and city escapees looking for total silence after the estate closes for the day. Both groups should expect at least a 6-kilometre drive to reach the château the following morning.

A 3-star property with 18 rooms, set 720 metres from the Lys golf course in a leafy residential neighborhood tucked under the trees. The property also houses a restaurant, and the local tourism office notes it closes from December 23 to 29.

A 24-room 3-star hotel in the hamlet of Montgrésin, part of the Logis network. The Orry-la-Ville-Coye station sits just 116 metres away, making it the shortest distance between any hotel and train station across the entire destination.

Our tips for booking the right place
- Check the municipality before booking, not the hotel name: This is the main catch when visiting Chantilly. Out of the 11 classified hotels with "Chantilly" in their commercial name, only 2 are actually located within town limits. The Kyriad and Campanile both list "60500 Chantilly" in their mailing addresses, but their buildings sit on plots of land in Gouvieux. The Chantilly golf course is located in Vineuil-Saint-Firmin. Two other properties with the same name are in Creil, and two more are in Chaumontel in the Val-d'Oise department, meaning those four sit 7 or 9 kilometres away from the chateau as the crow flies, and even further by road. It is just how a major tourist hub spills past its official borders, but your distance to the chateau changes significantly. Always check the actual municipality and listed distance rather than relying on the brand name.
- The chateau closes on Tuesdays and requires timed entry slots: The estate closes every Tuesday and observes an annual closure from January 4 through January 22 inclusive. The chateau and the Great Stables are open from 10 am to 6 pm, and the park stays open until 8 pm. Most importantly, the estate requires visitors to book a timed entry slot for 1-day tickets, meaning you cannot simply walk up and enter anymore. A 1-day ticket costs 21 EUR, a park-only ticket is 9 EUR, a family ticket runs 55 EUR for 2 adults and 2 to 3 children, and parking is 5 EUR. Secure your time slot before booking your hotel, as it dictates your entire schedule.
- Hotels stay open, but front desks do not: Out of the 8 properties listed by the tourist office in this guide, 7 welcome guests from January 1 to December 31, including the Gouvieux campground, which is unusual. The only planned closure is the Hostellerie du Lys from December 23 to 29. On the other hand, a closed front desk does not mean the hotel is shut down: the Kyriad desk closes at 10:00 PM. If you arrive on an evening train, give the property a heads-up, especially since our member Bill noticed that the town goes to sleep early and he found almost nothing open on rue du Connétable on a Sunday night.
- Staying overnight makes sense mostly for the evenings and race days: Plenty of visitors make the round trip from Paris, and this guide does not pretend otherwise. Sleeping in Chantilly makes sense in two scenarios. The first is the schedule of the racecourse, where our member foggy came to see major equestrian racing classics: on those days, availability shrinks and the high-capacity spots in Vineuil-Saint-Firmin become the solution. The second is the forest, which you cannot easily tackle late in the day. Outside of these two cases, our member Bill sums up the constraint well: on a Sunday night, after the château closed, he had trouble finding an open table on rue du Connétable.
- Booking a hotel named "Chantilly" without checking its actual town. The Kyriad and the Campanile are in Gouvieux despite their mailing address, the InterContinental Château Mont Royal is in La Chapelle-en-Serval, the Kyriad Chantilly Nord and the B&B Creil Chantilly are in Creil, and two "Chantilly Sud Luzarches" spots are in Chaumontel, in the Val-d'Oise department. None of them are misleading on purpose: it is the name that causes confusion, and the last four sit 7 kilometres away from the château or more.
- Delaying your booking while hoping for an open room on arrival. The town has only 3 rated hotels, adding up to 176 rooms total. A race weekend or an exhibition is enough to fill them all up, and fallback lodging means staying in another town, which requires having a car.
- Coming on a Tuesday. The château, the park, and the Great Stables all close on that day, and the rest of the itinerary is pretty thin: our member Bill notes that you can explore the center in no time. Check for the annual January closure before booking a winter night either.
