Gold Car, car rentals built for traveling light
Gold Car is a car rental service with more than 95 branches, mostly at airports and in tourist destinations across Spain, Portugal, Italy, Morocco, Andorra and about fifteen other countries.
The brand belongs to the group Europcar, which acquired it in 2017. The deal covered the sale of all of Gold Car, then billed as the largest low-cost car rental company in Europe, to Europcar. The transaction was based on an enterprise value of 550 million euros.
Under the ownership of the Investindustrial fund, Gold Car went from a family-run Iberian business to a structured, tech-driven international group, before joining Europcar's portfolio of brands.
What they offer
The service lets you book a vehicle in more than 100 destinations, with the option to return the car to a different branch from the one where you picked it up. Gold Car promotes an all-inclusive package with full-coverage insurance and no hidden extra fees, as well as a contactless "Súper Relax" option at vehicle handover.
How it works
You book online through the website or the mobile app, choosing your pickup and return branch, your times, and the driver's age bracket (19-20, 21-24 or 25 and over). A My Goldcar account lets you manage your bookings and keep track of your rental history.
Who it's for
This service suits travelers who want an airport car rental for a weekend or a vacation, in Spain and in the other European and international destinations covered by the Gold Car network.
Worth remembering: Gold Car offers 5% off your first booking when you sign up through its registration program, plus private sales reserved for Club Goldcar members.
