About Kenya Community Based Tourism Network (KECOBAT)

The Kenya Community Based Tourism Network (KECOBAT) was launched in August 2003 as a membership umbrella organization representing the interests of Community Based Tourism (CBT) organizations in Kenya. It facilitates information sharing, delivers technical support and advisory services, and mediates and lobbies on behalf of its members to government and other relevant institutions — integrating community concerns into national tourism policy.

The Network actively creates mechanisms and incentives that open up opportunities for rural communities to participate more fully in the tourism industry, particularly in the planning and running of enterprises on their own land.

MISSION
To safeguard and advance the interests and rights enjoyed by communities, local people and the informal sector over tourism resources — by enhancing their participation, contributing to policy, and stimulating positive actions geared towards the betterment of their livelihoods.
