A century-old brand with a global footprint
When you look at major car rentals, it is hard to overlook Sixt. The company started in Germany over a century ago, back when the automotive industry was still in its infancy and long before the two world wars that the firm managed to survive and eventually outgrow.
The story begins in Munich in 1912, when Martin Sixt used his modest fleet of three cars to launch a rental business. Despite having vehicles seized by the German military during the two world wars that followed, the company thrived through the 1990s before beginning a rapid international expansion that turned it into the giant we know today.
The brand holds the top spot in its home market of Germany, as well as in neighboring Switzerland and Austria. It is a global leader, currently operating in more than 100 countries with over 2,200 locations worldwide, including 1,500 in Europe and 200 in France.
A brand with many strings to its bow
This is a true multinational that carved out a space in the highly competitive world of car rentals by focusing on several key pillars:
- a complete and varied range of rental vehicles: compact cars, family sedans, convertibles, SUVs, minivans, pickups, luxury cars, sports cars, and electric vehicles.
- quality of service: a fleet of new vehicles (averaging six months old), modern and innovative accessories (Connected Drive systems, Bluetooth, GPS), and a status as the world's largest purchaser of BMW vehicles.
- a presence in every segment: rentals for individuals and corporate solutions, passenger and commercial vehicle rentals, luxury chauffeur services, moving truck rentals, wedding car rentals, and leasing.
This is by no means an exhaustive list of the services offered by a brand that has one primary objective: to become a comprehensive provider of mobility solutions.
I have used this rental company only once and the experience was very satisfying. The employees were all very professional, and I was not pushed into extra purchases like can happen with other rental agencies. Everything went well. The service is convenient and well managed.
