Aqua Mundo in the Ardennes: a tropical escape in the heart of the Belgian woods

Under the glass dome, the humid air and palm trees make you forget the wooded hills of Vielsalm stretching out just beyond. The water at 29°C (84°F) feels warm against your skin while the sound of children laughing bounces off the walls. Welcome to one of the few places in Wallonia where you can surf on artificial waves.

Why visit Aqua Mundo in the Ardennes?

This subtropical water park, part of Center Parcs Les Ardennes, houses the only wave pool in the entire province of Luxembourg. The complex underwent a complete renovation in recent years, shedding its former name of Sunpark to meet the brand standards of Center Parcs. More than just a pool, it is a year-round ecosystem of basins and water attractions that operates regardless of the fickle Ardennes weather.

The site is primarily designed for families with children under 10. Teens looking for major thrills may find the slide selection limited, but younger kids can spend hours here without seeing the day slip away.

The signature attraction: the Duo Racer

This double slide is the pride of the park. Two parallel tubes allow you to race against each other with a timed descent. You launch side-by-side, heart pounding, before splashing into the catch pool to see who won. This attraction is unique among the Center Parcs de Belgique.

The second slide, nicknamed the Boa, holds a surprise at the finish line: a direct free-fall drop into the pool. Be prepared, as the impact with the water can catch beginners off guard. Taller visitors have sometimes reported feeling a bit cramped in the Duo Racer, as it is built for average-sized riders.

Pools and relaxation areas

The wave pool

Every thirty minutes or so, the mechanism activates and turns the main basin into a mini-ocean. The waves remain moderate and are suitable for children wearing their mandatory life vests. A gradual entry beach allows the little ones to splash around safely in the shallow water.

The whirlpool and hot tubs

The lazy river offers a circular loop where the current carries you along without any effort. The family hot tubs accommodate several people at once in water warmer than the main pools. These areas provide the only moments of calm in what can be a rather loud environment under the dome.

The outdoor pool

Heated even in winter, it features a volleyball net and a basketball hoop. Balls are provided free of charge. A few lounge chairs surround the basin to enjoy the sun whenever it decides to appear in the Ardennes.

The kids area: a miniature jungle

The wading pool was expanded during the last renovations. Water jets popping up from the floor, small colorful slides, and shallow basins create a space designed for toddlers. The temperature is slightly higher here than in the other pools. Parents can keep an eye on things from the lounge chairs placed around the perimeter, though this area fills up quickly during peak hours.

Friendly tip: Arrive at opening time at 10:00 AM to snag lounge chairs and hit the slides without waiting in lines. After 2:00 PM, the dome gets crowded on weekends and during Belgian school holidays.

What to know before you go

Life vests or inflatable armbands remain mandatory for anyone under 12, and children of this age must be accompanied by an adult in the water. Orange vests are provided on-site. The changing rooms include family cabins with changing tables, and a microwave is available to heat up bottles. Pool noodles and play accessories are available for free.

Note the following:

  • Lockers for your belongings require a fee
  • Aqua Café snack bar is accessible from inside the dome for a bite between swims
  • Access to Baluba is included in your ticket, a 2,000 square meter indoor playground with ball cannons and climbing structures

This water park does not compete with massive complexes like those at Les Trois Forêts or Le Lac d'Ailette. Its size is modest and its slide selection is limited. However, for a half-day with young children or to warm up after a hike in the Ardennes forests, Aqua Mundo delivers exactly what it promises: a lighthearted tropical escape just an hour from Liège.

Great with young kids

Aqua Mundo is the main activity included for free with your stay at Center Parcs. And honestly, it is already super top notch! For the little ones, there is a dedicated area where they lend you armbands and life jackets for the kids.

Nice but not very big

Heated indoor pool with slides, wave pool, etc. We had fun, but I find it a bit small compared to other Center Parcs pools.
