What to know about Porto Giunco Beach, the pink sand between two seas

Your first impression is disorienting. On one side, the infinite blue of the Mediterranean, and on the other, the milky calm of a salt pond. Between them lies a strip of sand so white that it takes on pink hues under the Sardinian sun. Porto Giunco Beach is not just a beach. It is a geographical anomaly of striking beauty.

Why this beach is a Sardinian gem

Often called the beach of two seas, Porto Giunco Beach separates the Tyrrhenian Sea from the Notteri pond. This fine, almost powdery sand creates a landscape found nowhere else. The water is incredibly clear, and the seabed slopes so gently that you feel as if you are walking straight toward the horizon. It is the heart of the Area Marina Protetta di Capo Carbonara (Capo Carbonara Protected Marine Area), a guarantee of preserved nature.

A sensory experience: a painting in a thousand shades

The sand here is a fine powder, the result of erosion from the pink granite of the surrounding cliffs, which gives it its delicate tint. Walk barefoot and you will feel its incomparable softness. The silence is barely broken by the murmur of the waves, a gentle, steady sound that invites quiet reflection.

The color palette is a spectacle in itself: the turquoise water near the shore, the cobalt blue further out, the green of the juniper and mastic shrubs in the scrubland, and the silvery tone of the pond in the background. It is a place that instantly calms every sense.

The view from the Aragonese tower

Overlooking the beach, the Porto Giunco tower stands guard. A short hike on a fragrant trail takes about 15 minutes to reach its base. From the top, the reward is total: a 360-degree view that reveals the entire magical geography of the area.

Your eyes can trace the perfect double curve of the beach, the entire pond, the port of Villasimius, and the endless blue of the sea. It is from this vantage point that you truly understand why Porto Giunco Beach is considered one of the most beautiful beaches in the world.

Pro tip: Hike up to the tower an hour before sunset. The golden light flooding the bay turns the landscape into a masterpiece, and you will avoid the intense heat of the day.

The quiet ballet of the pink flamingos

Behind the dunes, the Notteri pond offers another, wilder spectacle. This salt lake is home to many migratory bird species, including a colony of pink flamingos. Their elegant silhouettes against the calm water add an unexpected touch of poetry to this already perfect beach. You can observe them in silence from a respectful distance to avoid disturbing their peace.

One of the most beautiful beaches in Sardinia

Certainly among the most beautiful beaches in Sardinia. Very close to the Stagno di Notteri, it is an ideal spot to admire the flamingos. The beach is vast and has an area covered in small pebbles.

Between the sea and the lake

Really pretty white sand beach with shallow turquoise water, located near a lake where you can see flamingos depending on the time of year. However, it gets super crowded.

Beautiful beach

Stunning beach with incredibly clear water and small, very pleasant waves. A must-see spot! Unfortunately, as is often the case on pretty Sardinian beaches, parking remains expensive. Here, it is €5 for parking, regardless of whether you stay for an hour or the whole day.
