Peyragudes

Where to stay near Peyragudes Ski Resort: the 3 areas to know in 2026

The name Peyragudes is a word cut in two, and it already tells you the main thing: the resort was born in 1988 of the marriage of Peyresourde and Les Agudes, two ski areas built on either side of the same ridge. One looks down on the Louron valley, the other on the Larboust, and they are not even in the same department. That is what our member notices first: with its two sides, you follow the sun all day.

The thing is, what takes a few minutes on skis is paid for down below. Between the two feet of the resort there is a pass and 13.9 kilometres of road. So you choose a side before booking: the Louron, where a gondola removes the car from the equation from the lake of Loudenvielle, or the Larboust, from which you drop down to Bagnères-de-Luchon, a spa town 15.1 kilometres away.

Peyresourde and Les Agudes, the two snow fronts At the start of the pistes, between 1,600 and 2,400 metres

Anyone who wants to click in at the door and cross from side to side all day

Sleeping in the resort means staying in one of the two hamlets of apartment blocks hooked onto the start of the pistes, the Peyresourde one on the Louron side or the Les Agudes one on the Larboust side. Both open onto the whole ski area, and that is where our member's remark makes full sense: you ski one side in the morning, the other in the afternoon, following the sun. Just above stretches the altiport, renamed Altiport 007 after a James Bond shot his prologue there. The accommodation itself is made of residences from the building years: the location scores well, the comfort far less.

With its 2 sides, this resort lets you ski in the sun all day long

Where to stay in this area

Résidence Néméa Le Hameau de Balestas Mid-range

The only address up top with an indoor pool, a sauna and a hammam, which matters when the evening happens where you sleep. Travellers praise the position, the comfort of the flats rather less.

Check availability

Résidence Néméa Royal Peyragudes Budget

200 metres from the foot of the pistes, with a free shuttle every 5 minutes. Comments keep coming back to the bedding and the soundproofing between flats: this is an address of position, not of soft nights.

Check availability

Pros

  • Both sides within reach from first thing
  • The altiport and its aircraft, in plain view
  • No road to drive all week

Cons

  • Residences scored well below the hotels down in the valleys
  • Two hamlets, and nothing around once the lifts close
2

Loudenvielle, beside the lake, on the Louron side At 950 metres, at the foot of the gondola

Anyone who wants a village, a lake and hot baths without giving up the pistes

The village sits between a 32 hectare reservoir and the meadows, at 950 metres, and since the summer of 2019 it has something few Pyrenean valleys offer: the Skyvall, a 3 kilometre gondola that reaches the resort in under 10 minutes. The car therefore stays in the car park all week. On the spot, Balnéa lines up its thermal water pools, the shops are open all year, and the valley has a second ski area, Val Louron. For a family, no other zone does as much, and the scores of the accommodation say so too.

Mercure Peyragudes Loudenvielle Pyrénées Luxury

The best score in the area, by a long way, over more than four hundred stays: location and comfort come close to the maximum. Outdoor pool, restaurant and private parking, the lake in front.

Vacancéole - Les Jardins de Balnéa Mid-range

Flats with balconies, sharing a wall with the thermal baths, and of the whole valley this is the one with the most comments. Couples give it a very high location score: everything is on foot.

Check availability

Pros

  • The gondola, so no road to ski
  • Thermal baths and shops, in the village
  • A village lived in all year, and a lake in front

Cons

  • The gondola has timetables, so the evening happens below
  • The lakeside addresses go early during school holidays
3

Bagnères-de-Luchon, the spa town, on the Larboust side 15.1 kilometres from the Les Agudes side

Anyone who wants a town that is alive once the pistes close, and two ski areas for the week

Past the ridge, the road drops down to a spa town with its avenues, its cafés, its casino and its baths. You sleep there at town rates, you dine without booking three days ahead, and you drive up to Peyragudes along 15.1 kilometres of road. But the town has a ski area of its own: the Crémaillère Express gondola leaves from Avenue Gallieni, at 630 metres, and sets skiers down on the Superbagnères plateau in 8 minutes. Two mountains for one stay, and hotels rather than residences.

Where to stay in this area

Hôtel Panoramic Mid-range

Right in the centre, facing the church where the main street begins: no address in Luchon scores better in our survey, over a hundred or so stays.

Hôtel d'Etigny Mid-range

Opposite the baths, an old house that hundreds of spa guests and skiers have written about. Reviews mention the location and the table before the decoration.

Pros

  • A town open all year round, baths included
  • A second ski area at the end of a town centre gondola
  • Hotels, at rates that are not those of a snow front

Cons

  • 15.1 kilometres of road to reach Peyragudes
  • The Louron side becomes an expedition: 25.6 kilometres

Our tips for booking the right place

  • The side is chosen before booking, not once you are there: Up top, the two sectors are linked by the lifts and you cross from one to the next following the sun, as our member describes. Down below it is another matter: between the foot of Peyresourde and that of Les Agudes there is a pass and 13.9 kilometres of road. In other words, an address booked on the Larboust side commits every evening of the week to Luchon, and one on the Louron side commits them to Loudenvielle. So look at the valley first, and the hotel second.
  • A gondola on one side only, and what it changes: The Skyvall, built from the autumn of 2018 to the summer of 2019, links Loudenvielle to the resort in under 10 minutes, over about 3 kilometres and more than 600 metres of climb. For a family stay it removes the one chore of a ski week: taking the car out twice a day on a mountain road. Nothing equivalent exists on the Larboust side, where you drive up. That, more than the price, is what separates the two valleys.
  • Check which pistes are open, even when there is snow: Our member says it plainly: not all the runs are necessarily open, even when the snow seems to be there, and it is better to check beforehand. On an area shared between two sides and two aspects, the consequence is concrete: if one sector closes, half the day's skiing moves to the slope opposite. Sleeping at the foot of one side commits you to nothing, the lifts make the link, but the day does not look like the one you had planned.
Where not to stay near Peyragudes Ski Resort
  • Booking at the foot of one side while counting on coming back for lunch from the other: the two hamlets are separated by a pass and 13.9 kilometres of road.
  • Choosing Loudenvielle and planning your evenings in Luchon: 25.6 kilometres separate the two valleys, at night and in winter.
  • Sleeping in the resort for the evening atmosphere: there are only two hamlets of residences there, everything else is down below.

FAQ: where to stay near Peyragudes Ski Resort

Why does the resort have this name?
Because it was born of two resorts. Les Agudes dates from 1965, Peyresourde from 1967, and their merger in 1988 produced Peyragudes. The two sectors each hold one side of the same mountain, between 1,600 and 2,400 metres, one above the Louron valley, the other above the Larboust, and they do not even belong to the same department.
Is it better to stay up at altitude or down in a valley?
Up at altitude you click into your skis at the door, but you stay in one of the two hamlets of residences, whose comfort scores are clearly lower than those of the hotels below. In the Louron valley, the gondola makes the car pointless and the village lives all year. In Luchon, you gain a whole town and a second ski area. Staying high mostly pays off for anyone who skis from the first lift to the last.
Can you ski without a car?
Yes, by sleeping in Loudenvielle: the Skyvall reaches the resort in under 10 minutes, over about 3 kilometres. In Bagnères-de-Luchon the Crémaillère Express gondola, which leaves from Avenue Gallieni at 630 metres, serves the Superbagnères plateau in 8 minutes, but not Peyragudes, which calls for the road.
What is the altiport 007?
It is the Peyresourde-Balestas altiport, which stretches out just above the resort. The prologue of the eighteenth James Bond film, Tomorrow Never Dies, was shot there in 1997, and the place kept the nickname. The Tour de France has climbed to it twice, in 2017 and in 2022.
What is there to do in the evening and on days without skiing?
On the Louron side, Balnéa and its thermal water pools are in the village, in front of the 32 hectare reservoir brought into service in 1975, and the valley keeps a second ski area, Val Louron. On the Larboust side, Bagnères-de-Luchon offers its baths, its avenues, its cafés and its casino. In the resort itself there are only the two hamlets.
How do you get here?
By road, in every case: Lannemezan station is 58.7 kilometres away and Tarbes-Lourdes airport 102.4. Once in the right valley, the rest depends on the side you chose, and that is why the question of which one is settled at the moment of booking.
