Visiting Banff National Park in the Canadian Rockies

Tucked into the Canadian Rockies, Banff National Park is a primary destination for outdoor enthusiasts. As the oldest national park in Canada, it features a terrain defined by jagged peaks and turquoise glacial lakes. Here are the main spots to hit during your trip.

1. Iconic Lakes: Louise and Moraine

Lake Louise and Moraine Lake are the most recognizable landmarks in the park. Lake Louise, framed by the massive Victoria Glacier, is a go-to spot for hiking or paddling a canoe. Just a few miles away, Moraine Lake is ringed by sheer cliffs and is best experienced at sunrise. Make sure to walk the trails surrounding both lakes for elevated vantage points.

2. Banff Upper Hot Springs

For a recovery session after days on the trail, head to the Banff Upper Hot Springs. These mountain-fed mineral pools offer views of the surrounding peaks. You can soak in the outdoor water while looking out at the snow-capped summits. The Banff Upper Hot Springs are a straightforward way to unwind after a long day.

3. Wildlife and Wilderness

Banff National Park is home to a dense population of local wildlife. Keep an eye out for bears, elk, mountain goats, and caribou. Hiking trails like the one leading up Sulphur Mountain provide a direct way to experience this protected wilderness.

Hiking that ends with a soak, a dream

Nature park that offers pretty scenery for some great hikes, with enough elevation gain to really tire you out, but the upside is that you can then relax in the outdoor thermal baths.

Exactly how you imagine the Canadian wilderness

This is where I found the image I had in my head of the great Canadian outdoors: forests, mountains, lakes, it is stunning. Remember to bring something warm to wear, the evenings get chilly ;)

Wonderful nature

It is truly the image you imagine when you think of the beautiful Canadian wilderness, with its forests, mountains, crystal clear waters, and animals.

For serious hikers, go without kids so you can walk, climb, and explore without holding back.

A total feast for the eyes

Depending on the time of day, the weather, and where you are, you will never stop being amazed by what nature has put on display in this huge green setting.
From the clear lakes (meltwater?) where the sun and mountain peaks are reflected, to a forest that smells deliciously of pine in some spots, and a few animals if you are lucky... Such a beautiful memory!
