Visiting La Mer de Sable
La Mer de Sable is an amusement park located in Ermenonville, about 30 km north of Paris. Established in 1963 by Jean Richard, it is the oldest theme park still operating in France.
The park is divided into three themed zones: the Colorado Canyon, the Mississippi Valley, and the New Mexico Desert. Its western aesthetic, complete with wooden buildings, saloons, and stagecoaches, feels like a direct import from the United States. While the park is primarily geared toward families with young children, it also features attractions suited for teenagers and adults.
The lineup includes roller coasters of varying intensity, ropes courses, mini safaris, pony rides, carousels, mini boats, and interactive simulations.
The park also hosts several live shows, featuring cowboys, Native Americans, stunt work, and equestrian acrobatics.
La Mer de Sable is open from late March to early November, with additional special events scheduled for the year-end holidays and summer vacation.
