Visiting Loro Parque, a sanctuary of biodiversity
Located on the island of Tenerife, Loro Parque is a primary stop for any nature or animal lover visiting Puerto de la Cruz. Founded in 1972 by Wolfgang Kiessling, this zoological park is recognized for its exceptional biodiversity. Housing more than 10,000 animals from 500 different species, Loro Parque is famous for its collection of parrots. It is the largest in the world, with over 4,000 specimens. These colorful birds highlight the commitment of the park to the conservation of endangered species.
Recreated natural environments and shows
Loro Parque features several impressive displays, including an aquarium with an underwater tunnel that offers an immersive view of sharks. The Planet Penguin exhibit houses the largest collection of penguins in the world, in an environment that mimics their natural habitat.
Visitors can also watch shows featuring orcas, dolphins, and sea lions, which highlight the intelligence and natural behavior of these animals. These presentations are both entertaining and educational, offering facts about the biology and ecology of marine life.
Commitments to conservation
The Loro Parque Fundación (Loro Parque Foundation) plays a central role in protecting threatened species by funding conservation projects around the world. When you visit the park, a portion of your ticket purchase supports these efforts. Admission prices typically start around 42 EUR (about $45) for adults.
The zoo also places a heavy emphasis on environmental education, helping visitors understand the importance of preserving wildlife and natural habitats.

Loro Parque is a really beautiful zoo to discover during a trip to the Canary Islands.
I enjoyed the visit, with a wide variety of animals to observe.
There are, in particular, the impressive marine mammals (dolphins, orcas, sea lions), which are among the park's main attractions.
Great shows are also offered.
The park is well laid out, pleasant to walk through, and allows you to spend several hours on site.
You can easily get there on foot from the center of Puerto de la Cruz, or opt for a free shuttle.
A very nice visit, ideal for animal lovers...even if they are not in their natural environment.
