Visiting Cinquantenaire Park
Located in the European Quarter, Cinquantenaire Park is one of the largest green spaces in Brussels. Designed in the late 19th century to commemorate 50 years of independence for Belgium, it mixes landscaped gardens, iconic monuments, and significant museums.
A green space perfect for a walk in the heart of Brussels
With its wide tree-lined paths, manicured lawns, and fountains, the park is a favorite for walkers and joggers. It provides a peaceful setting for a quiet break, removed from the city center noise. On sunny days, you will find families picnicking alongside athletes taking advantage of the open space.
A monumental triumphal arch
One of the most recognizable features of the park is the Arcades du Cinquantenaire (Cinquantenaire Arcades), an imposing triumphal arch topped with a bronze quadriga. This monument, completed in 1905, symbolizes the industrial and cultural power of Belgium. From the publicly accessible terrace, the view over Brussels is unmatched.
A cultural and historical hub
The park houses several major museums, including the Musée de l'Armée et de l'Histoire Militaire (Royal Museum of the Armed Forces and of Military History), which tracks the evolution of conflicts in Europe, and the Museum Autoworld, dedicated to automotive history. You can also visit the Musée Art & Histoire (Art and History Museum), which displays collections ranging from Antiquity to Art Nouveau. These are all excellent options to round out a visit to the park.
I really enjoyed visiting this park during my stay in Brussels. It is very pretty and offers a bit of nature right in the heart of the city. It is the perfect place for a walk and to take a break on nice days. This park is really lovely, I recommend you go check it out.
