Where to stay near Disneyland California: the 5 areas to know in 2026
In Anaheim, Disneyland is not an isolated park at the end of a motorway: it is a resort of two parks side by side, Disneyland Park and Disney California Adventure, separated by an esplanade and flanked by the shops and restaurants of Downtown Disney. And it sits in the middle of the city: facing the turnstiles, once you have crossed Harbor Boulevard, begins a long row of hotels and motels. Only three hotels belong to Disney.
Hence the real question here, and it changed in 2026. Sleeping at Disney no longer opens the parks early: that perk was withdrawn on 5 January. And the public shuttle that served the whole district stopped running on 31 March. What is left is walking, or the car and $40* of parking a day. So this guide sorts the places to stay into 5 zones, by the number of minutes on foot to the esplanade, then by what you gain as you move away: space, a kitchen, a water park, a second theme park.

The two ways to stay near Disneyland California
All of Anaheim comes down to one street to cross. Walking to the turnstiles, or driving and then parking: that choice sets the budget, the rhythm of your days and the zone to book in. Settle it before anything else.
| What changes | Walking distance from the esplanade | By car |
|---|---|---|
| Time to the turnstiles | A 4 to 15 minute walk, the Harbor Boulevard lights included | The drive, then the walk from the car park to the turnstiles |
| Parking | The hotel's own, and the car does not move all week | $40* a day at the parks, on top of the hotel car park |
| The afternoon break | Back to the room for a nap, then back to the park | Once parked, you stay: the break is taken inside the park |
| The evening | Downtown Disney and the GardenWalk on foot, after closing time | Dinner has to be planned, or taken at the hotel |
| Space in the room | Motel rooms, rarely a kitchen | Studios and one-bedroom units with a kitchen, for the same price |
| Who it suits | Two or three days in the parks, children who tire, no hire car | A week, a large family, a Californian road trip around the stay |
How long to the entrance, area by area?
What each zone costs you in time, on an opening morning. The walking times are the ones the hotels advertise themselves; no public bus has served this district since March 2026, which leaves walking, the car or a private shuttle.
| From | Time | How |
|---|---|---|
| The Disney resort | 5 to 15 min | on foot The Grand Californian has its door into California Adventure; from the Disneyland Hotel, you cross Downtown Disney. |
| Harbor Boulevard, facing the turnstiles | 4 to 10 min | on foot You cross Harbor Boulevard at the lights, then follow the fence to the esplanade. |
| Katella Avenue and the Convention Center | 10 to 15 min | on foot 800 metres from the south entrance of the Convention Center, up Harbor Boulevard. |
| Garden Grove, south of Chapman | 8 min | car or hotel shuttle 3.5 kilometres by road. The district's public shuttle stopped on 31 March 2026: the hotel's own is worth checking when you book. |
| Buena Park, around Knott's Berry Farm | 15 min | car or hotel shuttle 10 kilometres by motorway, and as long again by the Knott's Berry Farm Hotel free shuttle, which takes 15 minutes. |

The Disney resort Three hotels inside the gates, between Downtown Disney and California Adventure
Those who want a private door and a bed between the two parks
Three hotels, all inside the resort, none more than fifteen minutes from the turnstiles on foot. The Grand Californian has its own door into California Adventure: you go from the lobby to the rides without seeing the esplanade, which no other hotel in town allows. The Disneyland Hotel and the Pixar Place reach the parks by crossing Downtown Disney, on foot. What changed in 2026: these three hotels no longer open the parks early, the early entry perk was removed in January. So what you pay for here is the private door, the pool you come back to in the quiet hours, and never stepping outside the set.
Where to stay in this area
Disney's Grand Californian Hotel & Spa Luxury
The only hotel with a private entrance into Disney California Adventure: from the lobby you walk into the park without going through the esplanade. Dark wood, stained glass and a spa, in the style of the great Californian lodges. Nothing in Anaheim costs more, and what you pay for is not the room: it is the door.
Disneyland Hotel Luxury
Three towers at the far end of Downtown Disney, with the slides of the themed pool and light-up headboards in the rooms. Reaching the turnstiles means walking the length of Downtown Disney, 10 to 15 minutes: further out than half the addresses on Harbor Boulevard, at a rate that is not.
Disney's Pixar Place Hotel Mid-range
The resort's third hotel, built around the Pixar films, with its pool set on the roof. It has a walkway of its own, which reaches California Adventure in five short minutes. Of these three addresses it is the cheapest, and the one that most resembles a large city hotel dressed up for the occasion.
Pros
- A private door into California Adventure from the Grand Californian
- Pools to come back down to in the middle of the day, without leaving the resort
- Downtown Disney on foot for dinner, once the parks have closed
Cons
- Early entry vanished on 5 January 2026: getting up early no longer buys anything
- The heaviest final bills in Anaheim, for a walk that is sometimes longer than from across the road
Harbor Boulevard, facing the turnstiles Opposite the parks, 4 to 10 minutes of pavement
Those who come back at noon for a nap and head out again, never touching the car
This is what makes Anaheim unlike any other Disney resort: a single street separates the parks from a long row of hotels and motels. You cross Harbor Boulevard at the lights, follow the fence, and you are there. The closest addresses advertise 4 or 5 minutes on foot, those at the back of the zone about ten. It changes the shape of the day: you come back to the hotel for lunch, you put the little ones down at nap time, you head out again for the evening parade without paying for parking. The setting, though, cannot be fixed: six lanes of traffic, lit-up signs and car parks, nowhere to wander once night falls.

Best Western Plus Park Place Inn - Mini Suites Mid-range
The hotel sitting on the pedestrian crossing of the main entrance: nothing outside the resort is closer. Mini suites with a kitchenette, a hot breakfast included, a pool on top of the car park. You pay for those few metres, and nobody books here for anything else.
Anaheim Hotel Mid-range
Four minutes of pavement, no more: a single-storey motel, old school, laid out around a big pool and its palm trees. The rooms are roomy, you park outside your door, and the whole place has kept the look of the Anaheim that came before the resort.
Days Inn & Suites by Wyndham Anaheim At Disneyland Park Budget
The cheapest on this southern stretch of Harbor Boulevard: an outdoor pool, breakfast included, and nothing beyond an American motel. The park gates stay a few minutes' walk away, and the parking budget goes into the tickets.
Pros
- 4 to 10 minutes on foot: the car stays parked all week
- Back to the hotel at midday, pool and nap, out again for the fireworks
- The park car park saved, $40* a day
Cons
- A six-lane boulevard, signs and car parks: nothing to do on foot in the evening
- The closest rooms charge for it, and the comfort does not always follow
Katella Avenue and the Convention Center South of the resort, convention hotels, 10 to 15 minutes on foot
Those who want a proper hotel room, a pool and a bar, fifteen minutes' walk out
South of the parks, around the Anaheim Convention Center and the GardenWalk entertainment complex, the city changes scale: tall towers, convention halls, landscaped pools and hotel restaurants. The south entrance of the convention centre is 800 metres from the esplanade, a quarter of an hour back up Harbor Boulevard. This is the zone for anyone who wants something other than a motel: a gym, a bar in the evening, space in the room. And when a trade show fills the convention centre, it is the prices that change scale: check the calendar before you book.

JW Marriott, Anaheim Resort Luxury
The newest tower in the district, next to the GardenWalk and its restaurants and cinema. A fifth-floor pool, wide rooms, careful service; fifteen minutes of pavement lead to the turnstiles. The address for anyone who wants to find a real hotel at the end of a day in the parks.
Hilton Anaheim Mid-range
Anaheim's big convention hotel, next door to the Convention Center, barely ten minutes' walk from the parks. Close to a thousand rooms, a pool perched on the roof, several restaurants: the size sets the price, often below the motels across the road. The rooms show the tower's age, unevenly refurbished.
Quality Inn & Suites Anaheim at the Park Budget
On Katella Avenue: thirteen minutes to the parks, five to the Convention Center. A simple hotel with a pool and breakfast, to stay within walking distance of the resort without paying for the pavement opposite.
Pros
- Proper hotels: a pool, a gym, a restaurant and a bar in the evening
- The GardenWalk on foot, cinema and restaurants, once the parks have closed
- Rates often lower than across the road, for five more minutes on foot
Cons
- Fifteen minutes of pavement with tired children, twice a day
- Convention Center trade shows push prices up across the whole zone
Garden Grove, south of Chapman The neighbouring town, 3.5 kilometres from the parks, car or hotel shuttle
Large families, long stays, and anyone who wants a day without a Disney ticket
Harbor Boulevard carries on south and changes town: you enter Garden Grove, where the hotels are bigger, newer and cheaper than opposite the parks. You no longer walk from here, and that is the point to settle since March 2026: the district's public shuttle has stopped, leaving the car, the private shuttle some hotels have kept, or the one the city set up for its own properties. In exchange you gain space, often a kitchen, and the Great Wolf Lodge, whose indoor water park fills a whole day with the Disney tickets left in the suitcase.
Where to stay in this area
Great Wolf Lodge Southern California Luxury
A hotel built around an indoor water park, an 8 minute drive from the Disney parks: slides, a wave pool and water play included in the night, plus a bowling alley and a cinema. Here, and nowhere else in this guide, the children do not ask for Disney the next morning.
Delta Hotels by Marriott Anaheim Garden Grove Mid-range
A glass tower on Harbor Boulevard, an outdoor pool and recent rooms, a handful of driving minutes from the parks. The compromise the whole zone offers: a big brand paid for at the rate of a Harbor Boulevard motel.
Residence Inn by Marriott Anaheim Resort Area/Garden Grove Budget
Studios and one-bedroom units with a full kitchen, a hot breakfast included and a laundry: the format that changes everything over a week for four or more. Count on the car to reach the parks.
Pros
- Space, often a kitchen, for the price of a motel room on Harbor Boulevard
- The Great Wolf Lodge water park, which fills a day without a Disney ticket
- Recent hotels, where Harbor Boulevard mostly lines up ageing motels
Cons
- Everything here is done by driving: your own car, or a hotel shuttle where one exists
- The district's public shuttle stopped on 31 March 2026: check hotel by hotel
Buena Park, around Knott's Berry Farm 10 kilometres north-west, a 15 minute drive, a second theme park on site
Those doing two theme parks, or hunting the cheapest night of all
Ten kilometres from Disneyland, Buena Park has a theme park of its own, Knott's Berry Farm, which opened well before Disneyland and specialises in roller coasters. Around it, hotels post the lowest nightly rates of these five zones, and some have kept a free shuttle to Disneyland. This is the zone for those who came for Southern California rather than for one park: two theme parks in the same trip, and the Pacific coast the other way. Without a car, however, the choice does not hold.
Where to stay in this area
Knott's Berry Farm Hotel Mid-range
Knott's Berry Farm's own hotel, right against the park, with an outdoor pool, a hot tub and a sports court. A free shuttle serves Disneyland, ten kilometres away: in the whole town, no other place to stay spares you the drive to see Mickey.
The Buena Park Hotel & Suites Budget
A tower facing Knott's Berry Farm, family rooms and suites, a pool, parking on site. The cheapest the zone has to offer, with the compromise spelled out: you sleep far from Disney, you drive in the morning.
Courtyard Anaheim Buena Park Mid-range
A recent chain address near Interstate 5, for anyone stringing together Los Angeles, Knott's Berry Farm and Disneyland in the same trip. Plain rooms, parking, and a motorway slip road that saves the lost quarter of an hour each morning.
Pros
- A second theme park within walking distance of the hotel
- Enough room for a whole family at the price of one room elsewhere
- The free shuttle from the Knott's Berry Farm Hotel to Disneyland
Cons
- 10 kilometres to the Disney parks: the car, or the hotel shuttle
- Nothing of the resort on foot: no Downtown Disney, no fireworks on the way out
Our tips for booking the right place
- Count the parking before comparing two rooms: Parking at the parks costs $40* a day per car. Over four days, that is the price gap between a hotel across the road and a hotel in Garden Grove: at equal nightly rates, the cheaper room is not necessarily the cheaper stay. The question to settle first is the car: if you are hiring one for California, it will sleep in the hotel car park; if you are not, you need an address within walking distance.
- Early entry no longer exists: do not pay for it: Until 5 January 2026, the three Disney hotels gave 30 minutes' head start on opening. Removed, replaced by one free Lightning Lane entry per stay. Plenty of pages still advertise it: a rate justified by that head start is a rate that has not been updated.
- Check the shuttle, hotel by hotel: The public shuttle that linked the district's hotels to the parks stopped on 31 March 2026. Paid private shuttles and a district shuttle in Garden Grove have taken over, but not every address is served. If you book more than fifteen minutes' walk out without a car, ask for the shuttle in writing before you pay.
- A hotel chosen in the hope of getting in before opening: no address in Anaheim has offered that since January 2026, Disney included.
- An address in Garden Grove or Buena Park when you arrive without a car: since the public shuttle stopped, only a few hotel shuttles remain, and they cannot be guessed from the photo on the listing.
- The Convention Center district during a big trade show: the same rooms double there, and nowhere else in this guide does one industry's calendar set your budget.
