Visiting Ahaggar National Park, the Hoggar in all its majesty

Ahaggar National Park, located in the south of Algeria, covers approximately 450,000 square kilometers and encompasses a significant portion of the Hoggar mountain range. The park is defined by its otherworldly landscapes and volcanic formations, with Mount Tahat, the highest peak at 2,918 meters, serving as a primary draw for hikers.

Lunar landscapes in ochre tones

The park features eroded mountains, desert plateaus, and jagged peaks, creating distinct panoramas, most notably the Atakor peaks. These striking landscapes, characterized by reddish and golden hues, create the sensation of traveling to another planet.

A natural and cultural heritage

Beyond its unique geology, the park is home to rare species such as the Barbary sheep and the addax. Berber and Tuareg communities, who have inhabited this region for centuries, have left behind a rich cultural footprint, including rock engravings that provide evidence of life in the Sahara during much greener eras.

A destination for adventure

Ahaggar National Park is a key destination for adventurers. Numerous trails allow for the exploration of its canyons and arid plateaus. A visit to the famous Ermitage du Père de Foucauld (Hermitage of Father de Foucauld), perched high in the mountains, offers a spiritual and historical experience that adds a layer of cultural depth to this rugged journey.

Lunar landscapes in a timeless atmosphere

What a change of scenery to spend a few days in this lunar landscape. Mountains that look like giant chimneys, a silent atmosphere where you can really find yourself, clean air, and a horizon that stretches for miles (very little humidity in the air).

A place to find yourself

Immense spaces open up before your eyes as you gain altitude, landscapes that could come from another planet. It is a bit of an expedition to get there, and to get back, but once you are there, it is pure bliss. You feel so small and fragile in this majestic and unforgiving nature. You end up forgetting your daily worries for a bit, and it really helps you reconnect with yourself.
