Village de vacances

Racquet sports, a large ropes course, and fishing, all close to the Loire Valley châteaux

Set against a backdrop of vast woodlands and sitting near the Loire Valley Châteaux, Center Parc Les Hauts de Bruyères in Loir-et-Cher is positioned as an ideal getaway located just 40 minutes from Orléans and 2 hours from Paris. It belongs to a network of 7 Center Parcs locations established in France.

Activities

Spreading across 111 wooded hectares in the Sologne forest and featuring 17 hectares of lakes and ponds, this Center Parc appeals first to nature lovers who can explore its trails on foot, by bike, or on horseback, or take to the water in a canoe or paddleboat. For guests looking for action, the park lines up a wide array of options including ziplining, ropes courses, yoga, squash, archery, and badminton. Children also have plenty to keep them busy in a setting packed with outdoor options like a petting zoo, mini port, and pony rides, alongside indoor choices such as creative workshops, escape rooms, bumper cars, and video games. To bring everyone together, the must-see Aqua Mundo provides a water park kept at 29 °C along with the headline attraction: the Topsy Turvy, a wild waterslide tackled in the dark on an inner tube.

Accommodations

Alongside traditional categories like comfort, premium, and VIP, Les Hauts de Bruyères stands out with its newly designed VIP wooden cottages blending comfort and luxury in a wood interior with large glass windows that can sleep up to 12 people.

Dining

Vacations usually mean taking a break from cooking, which works out well since this Center Parc offers plenty of ways to skip kitchen duty with restaurants, grocery delivery, and catering services. A supermarket remains on hand for guests who prefer to cook their own meals.

Mixed experience

We booked 3 renovated PREMIUM cottages, but I didn't really see any difference compared to our first reservation a few years ago.
The CONS: We expected higher amenities, like air conditioning or at least a fan. Especially since I had called to find out if we would have a fan in these cottages, and the hostess told me that all cottages, without exception, had a fan. Internationally, the standard is air conditioning, and you can see that Center Parcs is not up to that.
So that is a first very negative point, especially since the outside temperature was reaching 95°F (35°C). The accommodations are less and less adapted to the heat.
Another very negative point: our cottage 945 was swarming with ants. You can tell that it is not being taken care of sufficiently.
The capacity of the pool is a bit tight during high traffic, as was the case because of the very high temperatures outside.
We were not able to do the outdoor activities, and some activities were canceled.
The price-to-quality ratio of the restaurants is too expensive.
The welcome upon arrival needs to be reviewed, and the organization as well.
We noticed that other things are ultra-modern, for example at FACTORY, where you have to place your order by scanning, place your order with your phone, and pay online. No server can help you. That doesn't make things easier, and it is clearly done to cut staff.
The PROS: the pool, the rapids that the family enjoyed, and the setting.

Nice but needs a refresh

This is the only Center Parc I have visited, and it was a longtime dream to go there. Aside from the aquatic area, there is almost nothing to do. All the facilities seemed closed during my visit, and the grounds were poorly maintained. On the other hand, the water park is very pleasant, clean, and well heated. There is not a huge amount to do, but the wave pool, the lazy river, the slides, and the outdoor river are nice and accessible to everyone. Considering the offerings in 2024, they really need to invest and provide more activities.

Way too expensive for what it is

It is not bad, but for the same price, or even less, you could stay by the sea in Tunisia or Turkey in an all-inclusive hotel.

Summer all year round

With the glass dome over the swimming area, you will feel like it is summer, no matter the month or the weather outside.
The pool is included in your stay.

Way too expensive for what it is

I expected better, given the price we paid. We are a long way from "all inclusive" here. You have to pay for meals, breakfasts, and any activities outside of the pool. Plan on a big budget for both the rental and actually enjoying your stay once you are there.

A bit dated

Having been to other Center Parcs, I find this one in Sologne a bit aging. There are fewer spaces, and the facilities are less modern and smaller. It is still a nice place of course, but I preferred the one in Vienne for example, which is a bit further from the Paris region but newer.

Good for a family trip

My feeling is that this place is convenient for relaxing with the family, without having to deal with complicated planning (airplanes, airport transfers, excursions...). Everything is on site, the pool that acts as a Caribbean beach, the playgrounds, and the nature outings.
For others, between friends or as a couple, you might get bored pretty quickly.

Quiet, in a historic region

Pretty quiet and family-friendly vibe, with quite a few kids around. There are plenty of activities to keep you busy for a weekend without any trouble. And if you are staying longer, why not take a day to visit the Loire Valley castles. They are not super close, but it is definitely doable.

Looks good when everything is open

I spent a few days there recently.
Not everything was open because of Covid, especially the pool. Fortunately, the rates were lowered. It is still a shame though, I would have really liked to go swimming in the middle of winter.
In any case, since we could not go very far, it was still nice to be able to get away for a few days.

Family friendly and laid-back vibe

Great for relaxing with family or as a couple. A little less so for a festive, single-style vacation.
Needs improvement: the price to quality ratio at the restaurants, and the welcome and availability of the staff (you shouldn't be in a rush if you need something).
I liked: the pool, the rapids, the treetop adventure course.

Relaxing and quiet, great for families

In the middle of nature, a relaxing place where a lot of families with kids come to enjoy the water park in particular.
I do not know what the other Center Parcs are like, but this one seemed very family friendly to me.

Nice setting but not enough space

Here is my take on Centerparc de Sologne, after spending a weekend there during Easter week:

The PROS:
The setting is nice, the cottages are in very great condition, as are the bedding and equipment. The heated dome is pleasant and the pool is truly superb, with gorgeous, natural plant life (it is all real).

The CONS:
The cottages are way too close together for my taste, and how well your stay goes depends heavily on the mood of your neighbors. The pool capacity is a bit tight during peak crowds, which was the case during the school break when I went.

If you can, go off season and outside of school breaks, plus it is cheaper!
