Anse Volbert Beach

#1 Anse Volbert Beach +13 4.7

Visiting Praslin Island, a Seychelles treasure

Vallee de Mai: a unique natural wonder

A UNESCO World Heritage site, the Vallee de Mai is a primary stop for nature lovers. This national park is home to the famous coco de mer, an endemic palm species that produces the largest seeds on the planet. Walking through its shaded trails, you will find lush vegetation and have the chance to spot rare birds like the Seychelles black parrot.

Paradise beaches and crystal-clear water

Praslin is known for its spectacular beaches, frequently ranked among the best in the world. Anse Lazio, with its fine sand and turquoise water, is perfect for swimming and snorkeling. Anse Georgette, which feels more isolated, offers a quiet and wild setting, reachable by a short hike or through neighboring hotels. These beaches are ideal for relaxing or spending time in the water.

Excursions to nearby islands

From Praslin, it is easy to organize day trips to nearby islands. La Digue, famous for its beaches lined with granite boulders, is just a 15-minute ferry ride away. Curieuse Island, formerly a leper colony, is now a nature reserve where you can see giant tortoises. Divers and snorkelers will also appreciate the coral-rich waters around St. Pierre Island and Cousin.

Local culture and Creole flavors

Praslin offers a look into Seychelles culture through its food and traditions. Creole gastronomy focuses on grilled fish, fragrant curries, and exotic chutneys. Local markets, such as the one in Baie Sainte-Anne, are the best places to find fresh produce and local specialties. For an authentic experience, enjoy a plate of fresh fish with spiced rice at a small seaside restaurant.

When to go?

The best time to visit Praslin is from May to October, when the climate is drier and temperatures are comfortable. The months from November to April are also good for divers, thanks to calm water and high visibility. Avoid the period from January to March, which is often marked by heavy rainfall.

How to get there?

Praslin is reachable from Mahe, the main island of the Seychelles, by plane or ferry. Domestic flights, operated by Air Seychelles, take about 15 minutes and cost between 1,200 and 2,200 SCR (about $85 to $160) round trip. The ferry, which is slightly more economical, takes about an hour for an average price of 700 to 1,000 SCR (about $50 to $75) one way. Both options offer great views of the archipelago.

Praslin, a postcard setting

A piece of advice for a trip to the Seychelles, choose Praslin and La Digue over Mahé. For those who love partying and water sports, be warned that Praslin is all about peace and quiet, between the tropical forest and wild coves. Luxury, calm, and bliss in a postcard-perfect setting. Don't forget to take a quick hop over to the neighboring islets of Curieuse, Cousin, and Cousine.
