What to know about SNCF Connect

Origin and creation of SNCF Connect

SNCF Connect is a booking and information platform for train and bus travel that launched in January 2022. It resulted from the merger of OUI.sncf and the SNCF Assistant app, designed to centralize every mobility service offered by the SNCF. Developed in France, the platform aims to provide a unified, streamlined experience for travelers.

A platform dedicated to mobility

SNCF Connect handles ticket bookings for major SNCF lines (TGV INOUI, OUIGO, Intercités) as well as regional trains (TER). The platform also facilitates coach bookings through various partnerships. Beyond ticketing, it provides real-time updates on schedules and traffic status, plus options for modifying and exchanging tickets directly through the app or website.

National reach and service goals

SNCF Connect is available across France through its website and mobile app. Its goal is to serve as the single entry point for all train and bus travel needs. The platform features an optimized search engine that integrates different modes of transport, offering multimodal itineraries to meet traveler demand.

SNCF Connect compared to the competition

The primary advantage of SNCF Connect is its direct integration with the SNCF network, its parent company, which ensures reliable and real-time information.

The platform prioritizes an intuitive interface, though some users faced a learning curve when it first launched. SNCF Connect continues to evolve with regular updates aimed at refining the user experience and adding new mobility services.

Functional and convenient for train travel

Essential for train travel in France, the site and the app work well overall. A positive point is that you often have the info before it is even posted on the boards. And in case of a problem, you can handle everything via the app, which is really appreciated when things go wrong! There are some small bugs sometimes, schedules that do not display, and redundant info entry at times. It is not perfect, but overall it is functional.

Convenient

The app is super convenient for booking train tickets quickly on your phone. It gets a little more complicated if you have specific needs. In most cases, it still saves you a lot of valuable time. A few improvements still need to be made.

Convenient for simple bookings

I almost always use the app to book my train tickets. It is very easy to search for routes, check costs, and get tickets in just a few seconds. I also use it to buy and renew my Liberté + card. It works very well. On the other hand, the tool lacks features. For example, if you are traveling with a pet and you did not indicate it at the time of booking, it is impossible to add it later. Getting compensation in the event of a delay or cancellation is also an uphill battle. Everything is set up to make people give up. I recommend using SNCF Connect to book trips you are sure about. For everything else, it is more efficient at the ticket counter.

Good for standard needs, but complicated for cyclists

The SNCF Connect app is relatively simple to use and works well for standard needs, like buying a ticket or checking schedules. On the other hand, as soon as you look for more specific information, like the options for traveling with a non-disassembled bike, things get complicated. The process becomes less intuitive and the info is hard to find. A real shame for cyclists!

Hit or miss reliability

We all have stories to tell about SNCF… And I am no exception. In itself, the site does its job when it comes to booking a ticket. The same goes for the app.

However, everything gets complicated as soon as things go a little off track (and unfortunately, that is often the case). For example, it was often impossible to get the refunds owed due to delays. Likewise, traveling with a pet complicates matters.

Website can't handle requests

Hello,

Regarding the core business of SNCF (namely train travel), just a few words to say that even though the site has finally been changed and modernized, it is still just as impractical. As a very regular user, I end up having to go to an agency near my work to handle some of my requests that, clearly, are too "complicated" to be processed online...

What a waste of time for a "loyal" customer (can't wait for the competition!!!) of over 10 years.

Catastrophic interface

SNCF Connect is a disaster in terms of user design. Obviously, there is no other choice, so I have to use it to book my train tickets just like everyone else. Every single time I have to re-enter all my data, even though I have already ordered tons of times with them. There are way too many options, and you can't even tell what's what with all these different train types. Instead of getting your ticket directly, you have to go into the app and enter your reservation number just to get your e-ticket. Booking for a pet or a bike is a total headache. In short, the site is completely useless.

Keep an eye out for cheap train tickets

I just wanted to add that the SNCF site, which is in my opinion one of the best, also offers some very interesting train deals for small budgets: -50% last minute on many TER and TGV destinations in 1st or 2nd class. I also believe that you can only access Prem's and ID TGV offers through this site, or at least more easily than through the ID TGV kiosks newly installed in major train stations. And the price difference is really interesting: one-way tickets from Paris to Lyon or Paris to Marseille for €20! See you soon! Review imported on 11/04/2020 from our old site Voyage-Net.com
