Simplicity, selection, and pricing, the recipe from the pioneer of online hotel booking

From telephone reservations to digital

Staying true to its roots has been the guiding principle for Hotels.com since its founding in 1991 by David Litman and Robert Deiner. Now a property of the Expedia group, the company began as a telephone hotel reservation service before transitioning to a website in 2002. It has never strayed from its original focus on lodging reservations, which has helped it become the leader in its category. The company eventually expanded its reach with dedicated sites for Europe, the Americas, Australia, Japan, China, the Middle East, and South Africa, and launched an app for Android and Apple devices in 2011.

Simple and comprehensive

What is the key to its success. Its streamlined booking process is a major factor. Just enter your destination and travel dates, and a list of accommodations appears, ranging from independent hotels to major chains, as well as apartment hotels and hostels. As the company slogan suggests, at Hotels.com, the choice is obvious.

That choice becomes even clearer when you see the sheer number of search filters available. Beyond the standard filters like price and star ratings, you can narrow your search by neighborhood, LGBTQ friendly status, business amenities, or proximity to specific landmarks to fit your personal travel style.

Negotiated rates

Another major advantage is the best price. While many online booking agencies offer rates similar to those you would get by booking directly with a hotel, the massive international traffic volume of a platform the size of Hotels.com typically allows it to secure additional discounts for its customers.

An attractive rewards program

To secure even more savings, the brand offers secret prices with 5 to 10 percent discounts and a rewards program that is straightforward. You simply collect 10 nights to earn one free night. The only requirement is to become a member through a free registration.

Very good booking site

I have used the Hotels.com site several times to book accommodations. I find it easy to use. You can quickly find what you are looking for thanks to the filters. I have never had any issues with my various bookings. The prices offered are also very reasonable. I recommend this site.

Less well-known than Booking

For me, Hotels.com is a backup plan if I cannot find what I am looking for on Booking. Their loyalty program is interesting, as you get one night free after 10 nights. I think it is worth checking Hotels.com when you are looking for a place to stay to see if it is at a better price. Sometimes, destinations also offer more choices on Hotels.com. After all, I suppose it is just a matter of habit...

Nothing to report

Used this several times to book hotels, and I have never had any bad surprises. Rooms were available when I arrived and matched the descriptions provided by Hotels.com.
As for the prices, it is hard to say if there is anything cheaper elsewhere, but they seem competitive to me.
