Hong Kong's national airline
Founded by former military pilots
"Move Beyond" is the slogan for Cathay Pacific, the flag carrier of Hong Kong founded in 1946 by American Roy C. Farrell and Australian Sydney H. de Kantzow. At the time, the two former air force pilots aimed to help their young airline cross the vast Pacific Ocean from its base in China. Given that Cathay is the historic Western name for China, the airline's current identity becomes much clearer.
A global reach
The company has come a long way since its early flights to Manila, Bangkok, Singapore, and Shanghai aboard Douglas aircraft. Today, it serves more than 220 destinations in 53 countries. The era of the Douglas is long gone, replaced by a fleet that ranks among the most modern and fuel-efficient in the world. From its primary hub at Hong Kong International Airport, the airline connects Asia, Africa, North America, Australia, Europe, and the Middle East.
Consistently ranked among the best
The company uses these next-generation aircraft to provide passengers with a top-tier travel experience, supplemented by a range of premium services. Highlights include a comprehensive in-flight entertainment system, dining options inspired by both Asian and international cuisines, seats with increased legroom, and complimentary access to various newspapers and magazines. These perks apply across the 4 classes offered on their long-haul flights: First Class, Business Class, Premium Economy, and Economy.
The Asia Miles loyalty program
Cathay Pacific also offers a compelling loyalty program called Asia Miles. With more than 800 premium partners worldwide, you can earn miles on flights, hotel stays, retail purchases, dining, and wellness packages.
These strengths consistently place Cathay Pacific among the best airlines in the world. It has been named Airline of the Year 4 times (2003, 2005, 2009, and 2014) and currently holds a 5-star Skytrax rating.
