What to know about Iberia, the Spanish national airline

Founded in 1927, Iberia serves as the national flag carrier of Spain. It was established by a group of private investors led by Horacio Echevarrieta, a Spanish entrepreneur, in partnership with the German carrier Lufthansa. From its inception in Madrid, Iberia aimed to connect the various regions of Spain and improve mobility at a time when commercial aviation was still in its infancy.

A company rooted in Spain with a global reach

Today, Iberia is based at Adolfo Suárez Madrid-Barajas Airport, one of the primary aviation hubs in Europe. From this strategic base, the airline offers flights to over 120 destinations across the globe, including Europe, the Americas, Africa, and the Middle East. It is also a key member of the Oneworld alliance, which allows it to provide an expanded global network in partnership with other major carriers.

Services and company commitments

Iberia focuses on providing a modern, comprehensive experience to its passengers, whether they are traveling in economy or business class. The airline regularly invests in renewing its fleet with more efficient and environmentally conscious aircraft, notably the Airbus A350 for long-haul routes. It offers services such as in-flight entertainment, paid Wi-Fi connectivity, and a loyalty program, Iberia Plus, which allows passengers to accumulate points redeemable for flights or partner services.

Iberia's strengths and what sets it apart

One of Iberia's primary assets is its strong presence in Spain, particularly for flights connecting Europe to Latin America. The airline is recognized for its role as an air bridge between these two continents, with regular service to major destinations like Buenos Aires, Mexico City, or Lima. Additionally, Iberia has made significant efforts to reduce its carbon footprint by participating in programs focused on more sustainable aviation.

No help for lost luggage

First time using this airline, and I think the last time.

Lost luggage, zero help from the company upon arrival (not even the express kit they talk about in their brochure to help during the first 24 hours), and no information about my bags 4 days later...

I of course forgot to mention the 3 hour delay at departure!

Iberia, an airline to avoid at all costs!!!!!

Overcharged

I cannot judge the planes or the flights, but my sister had the misfortune of booking a ticket with Iberia. She was charged more than the expected price, and it has been over a year now. Despite emails, contacts with the company, and everything else, they keep giving her the runaround and still havent refunded the roughly €120 (about $130) they owe her.

I find this scandalous!
