The world at your fingertips from Zurich and Geneva
There is a persistent idea that everything in Switzerland is just a little bit better than elsewhere. The chocolate, the cheese, the watches, the overall quality of life. But how does the national carrier, Swiss International Airlines, actually stack up?
Founded in April 2002 and led by Dieter Vranckx since January 2021, Swiss International Airlines, or SWISS, is the largest airline in Switzerland. It was formed following the bankruptcy of the former national carrier, Swissair, and the subsequent restructuring of Crossair. The company is now a core part of the Lufthansa group and a member of Star Alliance, the largest global airline network.
Leveraging this partnership, SWISS connects Switzerland to Europe and the rest of the world. They operate direct flights from Zurich and Geneva to more than 100 destinations in 44 countries around the globe.
An airline focused on ecology
To pull this off, they rely on a fleet of 89 aircraft, including both Airbus and Boeing models. It stands as one of the youngest and most fuel-efficient fleets in Europe, driven by ambitious climate goals. The airline has committed to cutting its net CO2 emissions in half by 2030, with a target of reaching carbon neutrality by 2050.
Sustainable and responsible business strategy
Environmental commitment is not the only priority. Maintaining an attractive workplace for staff, contributing to social initiatives within Switzerland, and supporting the country's economic development are central to their corporate philosophy. Ultimately, SWISS aims to deliver a high standard of quality in both products and services for all passengers, whether they are traveling for business or vacation.
Diversity in service
This focus on quality is reflected in their range of cabin classes, spanning Economy, Premium Economy, Business, and First. The service offerings are equally broad, including upscale airport lounges, refined onboard dining, extensive entertainment options on long-haul flights, duty-free shopping, pet travel accommodations, and the Miles & More loyalty program.
Beyond flights, you can also use the SWISS platform to book rental cars, airport transfers, hotels, and tourist attractions.
