Le luxe comme ADN

À croire que l’adjectif « allemand » rime avec luxe et opulence car si les voitures allemandes nous avaient habitués à un certain niveau de raffinement et d’élégance, il en est de même du côté des airs, avec cette compagnie allemande, Lufthansa, qui n’a cessé de cultiver la German touch haut de gamme depuis ses débuts.

Des débuts qui commencent notamment à Berlin en 1926, date à laquelle le leader du transport aérien en Europe a été fondé suite à la fusion de deux compagnies allemandes : la Deutsche Aero Lloyd et la Junkers Luftverkehr. S’ensuivront ensuite une série de partenariats à l’issue desquels Lufthansa deviendra la co-fondatrice du groupe Star Alliance et également propriétaire de plusieurs filiales de renom, parmi lesquelles Swiss, Lufthansa Regional, Eurowings Europe, Austrian, ou encore Brussels Airlines.

Une First Class reconnue au niveau mondial !

Si ces différentes alliances ont permis à la compagnie de s’étendre, elle doit également sa fulgurante croissance à un élément principal : sa First Class qui a fait sa renommée mondiale et lui permit d’engranger une pluie de récompenses, dont 5 étoiles au classement Skytrax en 2013. Son secret : le LUXE qui transparaît à tous les niveaux, à commencer par le service limousine et l’accès aux lounges privatifs, sans oublier les menus gastronomiques, la vaisselle en porcelaine, les sièges-lits inclinables à 180°, le Wi-Fi haut débit ou les offres personnalisées.

Mais ce luxe n’est pas réservé à la seule First Class. Il s’étend également à la Business Class et l’Economy Class, sans oublier la récente Premium Economy Class, un condensé de classe affaire à prix économique et un bon compromis pour séduire de nouveaux clients qui ne feront que venir s’ajouter aux 66 millions de passagers déjà recensés en 2017 et que la compagnie transporte vers plus de 300 destinations dans une centaine de pays grâce à une flotte de 336 appareils, dont le mythique géant A380.

I flew with Lufthansa once and everything went very well. No specific issues to report. The flight was on time and the staff was pretty friendly. I didn't find the prices particularly excessive compared to other airlines in the same category. I would book with this airline again without any worries.

Service needs improvement

I often compare Lufthansa to Air France. For me, these airlines are outdated compared to the competition. The planes are old, and they are not very comfortable. The service is very average, and the meals are not very filling. The prices are high. But often, there are no other options in Europe because it is such an influential airline. The advantage is that it is a reliable option since they have been around for a long time.

Flight cancellations

Very bad experience trying to get to Asia from France.
The airline canceled 5 out of 6 flights scheduled for our trip in 2022

2-hour delay with Lufthansa

Hello, here is my review of Lufthansa following a Paris to New York flight in economy class last May (with layovers in Germany).

First off, the price was very reasonable for a Paris to New York flight: €360 (booked 3 to 4 months in advance).

On the other hand, the fact that you go through Germany (Duesseldorf on the way there, Frankfurt on the way back) adds nearly 2 hours to the flight time (plus about 2 hours for the layover) compared to a direct flight.

Next, I found the onboard staff welcoming and friendly.

As for the food, it is pretty average and not very filling. Do not hesitate to bring your own snacks.

On the return, for the New York to Frankfurt flight (an 8 hour flight), I thought it was a shame that there were no individual screens to choose movies to watch. But hey, since it was a night flight, it was not a huge deal.

However, I did not appreciate the 2 hour delay on that same flight. For my last day in New York, I would have liked to do something else with those 4 hours spent at Kennedy airport. I will note, however, that the airport staff tried to explain the reasons for the delay (technical issues) and kept us updated regularly on the takeoff time. I know other airlines that give zero information, whether about the causes of the delay or the estimated duration.

Major delay, very poorly handled

36-hour delay on a Toulouse to New York flight, all because of 2 hours of fog in Frankfurt... Zero crisis management, they just packed people together in Frankfurt and let it happen. The employees were unpleasant, haughty, and even laughing in front of travelers who had spent 8 hours in line that day with children... Just barely an apology after the fact, and they clearly didn't mean it. On the plane, nothing to report, the service wasn't great, and the planes (747) are outdated. No way to know where my suitcase is

Not a business-like attitude at all

We wanted to make a partial itinerary change caused by a mistake during booking. There was no possibility to speak to an agent in French. We waited 150 minutes on the line to get a French-speaking agent, without success. The fees to make a change were exorbitant, for example 200 euros per person to cancel a segment between Munich and Athens. Communication was difficult and not very attentive. >:( >:( If it were possible, we would cancel everything and change airlines, but despite what they say on the website, we would not get any refund and it involves 4000 euros, so we feel stuck and cheated. The best airline
