Failure to assist a tourist in distress

I had one of the worst experiences of my life with Promosejours.

I bought a trip from them with full confidence, and I ended up stranded in Jordan with my 11-year-old son, right in the middle of a military escalation. Missiles were exploding over our heads. My child was terrified, crying, and unable to sleep. We were left to fend for ourselves.

No news. No calls. No clear instructions. No concrete assistance.

Despite our repeated attempts to reach them, total silence. No guidance, no backup plan, not even a message to see if we were safe. When you sell trips, you also have to take responsibility when the situation goes south.

Being stuck abroad in a dangerous situation is already extremely stressful. Living through it with your child, without any support from the agency you entrusted your trip to, is unacceptable.

I am not talking about a simple inconvenience or a flight delay. I am talking about a real danger, with strikes happening above us, and a total lack of assistance.

I strongly advise against this agency. When everything is fine, maybe the trip goes okay. But in the event of a crisis, you are on your own.

Great last-minute deals

Since I booked my vacation pretty late, I found some really great deals for Tunisia for that same week. During the trip, I had nothing negative to report.

My take on Promoséjours

I went abroad and they don't tell you everything despite the obligations of the tour operator (mandatory €50 deposit to be left upon arrival). Not to mention the travel conditions via the airline... bad experience. Review imported on 11/04/2020 from our old site Voyage-Net.com

My thoughts on Promoséjours

We booked a trip for 7 adults at the Maya Beach 6 months before our departure date. When we arrived at 1 am, we weren't registered at that hotel despite our voucher, which clearly indicated the Maya Beach hotel. We were sent to the Caribé hotel, where we were forced to spend our entire stay. The room assignments were done in a completely random order, so couples were separated. We had to figure it out among ourselves, but the extra fees were still assigned to us based on the arrangement they forced on us. A real headache when it came time to settle the bill. We had booked 2 double rooms and one triple room, yet the latter consisted of a double room with a small sofa, and this was for 3 adults who had paid full price. At no point were we informed by Promoséjours about these accommodation conditions, as any professional worthy of the name should have done. When we brought these accommodation conditions to the attention of the Promoséjours management, they ignored our complaints by stalling and disclaiming all responsibility. Be careful when you book a trip with this tour operator!! Avis importé le 04/11/2020 depuis notre ancien site Voyage-Net.com

Re: Promoséjours

I did a self-drive tour with Promoséjours this summer. Here are a few lines about what I dealt with throughout the trip.

First, regarding the car rental. When we arrived in San Francisco, we picked up the car as planned from FOX, the agency working with Promoséjours. After a 12 hour flight and a 9 hour time difference, at their counter, we were forced to take insurance. We were given two options, one very expensive at about $45 per day, or an intermediate one at $30 per day. The one listed at $14 was supposedly not for tourists. We found it strange to have to pay for this extra insurance, but according to the person who assisted us, there was no choice, it was a necessity, an imperative. Pretending not to understand our English, they imposed the insurance on us anyway. However, we learned later that not everyone on our tour was treated the same way. Some got the $14 per day insurance and others didn't have to pay for insurance at all. The agents, likely working on commission and having no scruples, didn't hesitate to rip us off.

Furthermore, when picking up the vehicle on August 2nd, I was asked to pay $75 because the car was supposedly dirty inside. I refused to give my credit card because I have rented many cars and I have never had to pay supplements for a dirty interior. Not only was it not dirty enough to justify a $75 cleaning fee, but it is normal to have a bit of dust on the dashboard and on the floor when visiting parks like Monument Valley. It is a total scam. Even though I didn't give my card, I still had a $75 charge on the receipt. FOX used my banking details provided on the day of the rental, which is absolutely not normal.

A third problem, the deposit was not returned to me because I supposedly arrived too early to return the car, which I have never seen anywhere in any country in the world. Penalties for returning a car early are ridiculous. The car was actually available until 7:00 pm, but since we had an international flight taking off at 8:30 pm, we had no other choice. It was specified that we had to be at the boarding gate 5 hours before the flight time. Scandalous. Not only did I pay for insurance I shouldn't have, they kept my $100 deposit and, on top of that, they charged me an extra $75 for a car that was returned no dirtier than normal.

THE WORST. On July 24th, €443.56 was deducted from my checking account, EUROS and not dollars, which corresponds to absolutely nothing that was indicated to me at the counter, since the person at FOX had told me that the supposedly mandatory insurance would cost me $320. FOX surely confused the exchange rate between euros and dollars to their advantage. How does $320 turn into €443? What magical exchange rate allows for that?

Second, regarding the various hotels. The hotels were supposed to correspond to French 2 or 3 star categories, but on one hand, we only had Motels, which in itself isn't a problem as long as you get suitable service, but that was not the case for most of them. The geographical location was very poorly chosen, far from the city, and not at all practical and difficult to access.

In San Francisco, the motel was very dirty, carpet not vacuumed, dusty, smell of tobacco even though it was a non-smoking room, extremely noisy motel, facing the highway, very sketchy parking lot, lighting constantly turning off.
In Bakersfield, very sketchy parking lot, with prowlers right in the back.
In Norwalk, extremely dirty motel, bad smells, kitchenette full of grease, oil stains, without any equipment, not even a glass, so it was useless. Not a very happy geographical location. Service was supposedly until 10 am, however by 9 am, there was only a quarter of the food offered left.
In Kingman, no double room but a single. Pitiful state of the bathroom, peeling shower, dirty toilets, dusty carpet never vacuumed, the corners were full of dirt residues. Breakfast couldn't be eaten in the room, only two tables of 5 people for the whole motel were offered. The motel being full, it was impossible for us to eat, given the number of people eating at the same time, it was impossible for us to get access to the buffet.
In Flagstaff, the motel room was okay, however once again, it was impossible for us to access the breakfast buffet, the small room was packed, we were only able to get two pieces of toast because we insisted, otherwise we wouldn't have been able to get anything.
In Kanab, the motel room was okay, but dusty. Breakfast room was tiny, though there was a possibility to take your meal with a tray to the room, but there was nothing to eat.
In Las Vegas, first of all we only had 2 breakfast tickets instead of 6. A supplement was requested even though it wasn't planned in the purchase of the self-drive tour. We discovered this on the day of departure when receiving the travel booklet. The room was extremely dirty, an old empty pack of chips was behind an armchair, a phone case was next to the fridge, which shows that cleaning isn't done correctly. The room smelled very bad. One morning we had sewage water coming back up through the sink drain, hair, and piles of filth were sprayed on the floor, the walls, the mirror. We specified in a note that there had been this water damage, and yet the cleaning was only done summarily, only the sink had been rinsed, the walls, the mirror, and the floor had not been cleaned, which is unforgivable after this type of problem.

Third, the organization itself. We were supposed to receive a travel booklet, but what we had in our hands was nothing more than a succinct summary of what was noted on the site where we bought this tour. No indication of sites to visit, distances, or geographical locations of the hotels. We benefited from a GPS, however, it malfunctioned the entire trip. It led us to make many detours, including one of more than 250 km, inventing roads that didn't exist, directing us in one direction then changing totally to tell us to go to the opposite... not knowing certain addresses, and especially having bugs and no longer giving any indication of the route to follow while on the road. No document regarding assistance or people to contact is given, no number is indicated in case of a problem.

Having tested it, I strongly advise you against leaving with Promoséjours. Paying €1800 per person (not counting the extra €600 not planned related to the car rental which was normally included in the total and final price), I assure you that it is better to put the trip together yourself or choose another company. Trying to make too much margin, choosing the cheapest options, and using low-cost providers for each of the services necessarily leads to offering a product that is more than mediocre.

Bad experience with early bird pricing

I am posting this to save you from having the same unpleasant surprise we had. We booked a trip to the Dominican Republic with Promoséjours at a supposedly unbeatable early bird price, since we booked in February for a November departure. First bad surprise, one month after booking, a fuel surcharge increased the bill. Two months before the departure, I went on their site and noticed that the trip was €200 less per person for the same date and the same services. I found it at the same lower price on Voyages Carrefour, which certainly explains it. I contacted customer service to explain that I have always booked trips very early to get a better price and that this is the first time my trip ended up being cheaper (aside from last minute deals, which are generally the same as early bird prices) and that I felt they could offer a discount (considering they have been using my money since February, and a trip for 4 adults is not pocket change). Well, believe it or not, nothing. They did not even deign to remove the fuel surcharge, which does not seem justified given the current price of the trip! So I contacted a consumer service and the fraud prevention office (regarding the surcharge). So avoid Promoséjours or get cancellation insurance.
